3 hands from a session this morning. I got some grease here and at 2p2 for not betting a flopped set, so I tried a different line. 2 of the hands I am in ep (one of the blinds), the last one I'm in lp. I am torn between betting out on a flopped set, or checkraising when I'm in early position.
Comments?

all of them I like, excpet the last one maybe call the 2 bets and induce the button to call along. At the same time tho the draws are endless, might as well get it in then and thin it out (though hard to believe it woudl thin at all considering size of pot)
Overall I really like the lead/bet/raise line with a set on the flop over the c/c, c/r turn. Might as well get as much value as possible

When I'm on my A+++ game, I find a river fold in the first hand.

Yeah hand one I think a fold is possible when JT and 6x both got there on the river of a pretty dry board. Not that I lay it down getting 9:1 on the chance that he is doing something funky with a hand like 98/97/22.

A river fold on hands 1 or 2 would be a bit too painful in most cases. I'll pay the odd puke bet to get a note on a player who chased a gutshot or bottom pair to river. And it hurts too much when I fold the best hand in a big pot - which has cost me more than the occasional donkey beat.
Hand 1 I wonder if I should have checkraised, though with a gang of limpers on that raggy board and that passive table they may well have checked it behind.
Hand 2 I wonder the same thing, though I generally prefer to donk out - enough players will happily raise me with top pair, and I can usually count on at least one ace seeing the flop.
Results in white:
Hand 1: Villain caught his gutshot with Ad6d on river
Hand 2: Villain caught a straight with 3d4c (!!!!) Bastard.
Hand 3 is obvious.

the c/r in hand two is not good. Others are fine.
The general rule for flopped sets is if there is no action preflop (everyone limped) just bet out because you can't check to the raiser and expect a bet. If there IS action preflop you can consider a checkraise -- though its often better to check/call and check/raise the turn.

I was very serious about hand 1 being foldable. Need to pay attention to make that fold though.

It's hard for me to find a puke-fold in hand 1. The guy is just as likely to have 87 or even 57 as have us beat. JT would raise the flop you would think. He could just be looking at the scary board and big pot and trying his luck with a bluff. It wouldn't suprise me that much if he hung around with a gutshot but i think 1/10 times your set is going to be good.
Hand 2 looked a bit funny to me. you 3bet the flop then checked the turn. Nice that someone bet for you but on a dry board with all limpers i'd probably just play it fast, even with the Ace on the flop.

Every time I've folded a set for one bet, it's been a good laydown. There are just some spots against some players where a set is almost never good.
I'm not saying I find that fold every time, I've made that crying call a lot as well.

Can't recall exactly. Some kind of middle pair that he should have dumped much earlier.
Every time I fold a set for one bet the other guy flips over his middle pair and I cry bitter tears (or so it feels anyways). I wanted to let go of that hand - 4 to a straight is not friendly, and I never like it when a passive player comes alive on a river like that.
Folding too much is more often one of my weaknesses than folding too little.

Yeah it is much better to err on the side of calling in any decent size of pot. Losing a pot I should have won because I folded on the river tilts me much more than losing to a gutshot straight draw.

There are two sides to that coin. It's silly to cry really hard on a ~10:1 call. Once we get up to 15:1, 20:1 or more....
