UTG is familiar to me, VPIP 37%, passive. The other two are strangers.

I'm posting this hand because it seems (to me) to illustrate some of what I think I learned from SSHE about counting/discounting outs, and playing marginal hands.

Preflop: Hero is MP2 with Q, K.
UTG calls, UTG+1 calls, 1 fold, Hero raises, 2 folds, Button calls, 2 folds, UTG calls, UTG+1 calls.

Flop: (9.40 SB) 6, 8, T (4 players)
UTG bets, UTG+1 calls, Hero calls, Button calls.

A thin peel just with the overcards. I'm thinking about 4 outs for my overcards (given the semi-coordinated and two-tone board), 1.5 outs for a backdoor flush draw, and another half out for a runner straight draw. ~6 outs give me just under 7:1 to call, so I do - though without much hope.

Turn: (6.70 BB) 9 (4 players)
UTG bets, UTG+1 folds, Hero calls, Button calls.

Not I have a gutshot, but a marginal call nonetheless since I'm facing a possible set or at least a pair and the flush draw is still out there. Say 3.5 outs for the gutshot, and another 3 for the overcards because UTG is a fairly poor player who I have seen overplay a low PP before. So 6.5 outs gives me about 6.3:1 odds to call, and I do.

River: (9.70 BB) J (3 players)
UTG checks, Hero bets, Button folds, UTG calls.

Time for a bet/call line. The flush may be out there, but probably not, and the straight makes me happy.
Final Pot: 11.70 BB

Preflop I would call because I'm using the ITH starting hands rather than the SSHE ones. I would follow the same line on the flop and the turn. On the turn you have two gutshots, theoretically the equivalent of an OESD. I would downgrade the 8 outs because two put a possible straight on the board and the draw to the idiot end of the straight can't have full value...maybe 6 outs plus your 3 for the overcards (and I would also use three for those). I think I would c/c the river because I'm chickensh...
