This was an interesting hand I played against a very loose maniac. He raised anything, from 95o to JJ... I called him down with A high and a gutshot draw. My ace high held up against this wild player. I don't do this often though, my luck and read on the player held up.

Fold preflop against a player who raises every single hand? Gotta mix it up.

o You're not against just a player that's rasing every hand, you're up against 3 other players as well (with 1 fold in front.)
o Your hand blows unless you're heads up with a non-Ace non-pair hand.
o The maniac has postion on you, making it more difficult to play out Ace high.
o If the table knows he's a maniac, they'll start making loose calls and 3/4-bets.
o If anyone caps, your hand is almost always destroyed. You almost have to fold if it's 2 sb back to you.
o With very few flops you'll have a good idea where you're at.

Wait for a better hand. His horrible play isn't an excuse to play badly.

Better yet, find a better seat or table.

In my experience, it is not smart to play more hands vs a player that raises every hand. The way to take their money is to just play the hands you do play a LOT more aggressively. Vs somebody that is always raising, I have no problem 3-betting or capping with a hand that is not the nuts, but I will still not play a hand like A5 offsuit.

i dont think it was smart to not cap preflop, nor was it to not raise the flop. Dont let people get free cards, the only thing I would be scared of would be trips of if hes a huge dumbass two pair with a KQ. Nor should you have given him the chance to hit on the river, NO FREE RIVERS!!!
