I've got limited ring game experience. I've got almost zero limit experience. Having said that, I'm considering learning how to play limit for purposes of multi-site bonus whoring.
Of those of you with both limit and NL ring game experience (Fnord, etc.) which game do you prefer for $/hour doing multiple tables?
I'm sure I can insert Rippy's standard rant that limit HE is for old men

for bonus 'hoing, assuming you need to play "raked hands", i like to double table omaha hi/lo .5/$1 limit.
i play mostly tourney's, but last month decided at the last minute that i just had to have the party poker hamper (hat and shirt). i did the double omaha 8 thang to play my 400 rakes hands, could easily do 80 - 100 hands per hour, and ended up up about 4BB/100 hands (yeah, i know, it's only $16, but the hat, the tee shirt!!! ).

NL (full) cash is better for bonus whoring because of the lower variance. Just fold away only playing the Kleptic starting hands. NL 6 max is swingy, but not sure how it compares to limit.
Overall, I make more money playing 2/4 and 3/6 than I do playing NL/PL, but the variance is much higher.
NL/PL is a game of big (semi-)bluffs and waiting for big edges to whack some poor sucker over the head with. Limit is a game of small edges applied over and over again.

Yeah, the variance factor of limit scares me. I'm used to the low variance of NL SnGs. If I want to try a switch to limit, I'm probably going to need the following things:
1. Hold 'Em for Advanced Players (this is basically the "limit HE bible", right?)
2. A thick skin, since I'm sure to suck initially
3. Advice from the limit masters of FTR (Fnord, Toasty, etc.). I'll try to post some hand histories if and when I make the switch.
4. A decent bankroll. This has been answered before...but what's a good bankroll for, say, the 1/2 limit table?

Here's a question. I'm not too into the whole bonus whoring aspect of online poker. What are you talking about Fish with the Hat and Shirt thing on Party? Is there any other bonus stuff I can get for playing a certain number of raked hands on Party Poker?

Small Stakes Hold'em is better.

$400
On Party the .5/1 and 2/4 games are better though...

I'd say $400 is acceptable but $600 is safer, Mason done some calculations and 300BBs will give you a 95% chance of not going broke if you are beating the game. The actual calculation is linked to win rate, the more you are winning the less you need.
The 1/2 games are pretty awful and you will be hit with some monster bad beats but at the same time you should easily kill it for around 5BBs/100 because the play is so poor. Once you hit $1200 move up to 2/4 if you feel comfortable.
Hope this helps.
As for books SSH is getting really good reviews, Lee Jones book WLLH is also a good buy.

While this certainly applies to Party Poker because there is no requirement as to the size of the rake needed on a hand for it to count as "raked", I'm guessing for some of the other sites limit is the way to go in order to meet minimum rake size requirements? I think I've heard people say that for UB/Paradise you're better off with limit for clearing bonuses. Possibly with Full Tilt also, since the rate of bonus clearing scales with rake size.

Regardless of that fact, I would tend to agree with Fnord regardless of venue. There will always be less variance playing NL vs. limit. Making it the preferred way to clear a bonus.
I too, play .25/.50 NL, .50/1 NL, 2/4 limit and 3/6 limit. More frequent wins in limit as opposed to NL but the variance can be a killer with a run of bad cards or mainly (for me anyway) the inability to bet out the chasers.
I would stick with NL for bonus clearing. Just my personal preference.

Because Party/Empire skins don't have "Micro-Limits", so you end up with all of the new players there

Well for bonus whoring on the party poker skins I would say NL. There is a lot of whoring to do on those skins and its the easiest whoring available. There is PartyPoker, EmpirePoker, Intertops, Multipoker, and at least 3 others but I cant remember their names.
Oh I think eurobet is another one. So far I have only done Party Empire and Intertops but thats like 300 in initial bonus right there plus all the reload bonuses you periodically get. Pretty phat if you ask me. You do have to sign up on different computers but once you do that u can play em all on the same one.
Interesting thing too I recently emailed partypoker about getting a 20% deposit bonus because I wasnt seeing one available on my account and they emailed me back and they said...........

Dear David,
Thank you for contacting customer care.
Please go ahead and make a deposit (no bonus code required) and we will go ahead and give you a bonus amount of 20% up to a maximum of $100. You are required to play the raked hands 5 times the bonus amount.

So if you guys ever dont have a bonus code and are going to make a deposit ask for deposit bonus first and they will most likely give you one. I already made this deposit this morning and they did indeed give me $100 bonus.

mike - i think fnord's point (as was mine) was that the .5/1 and 2/4 games are better (more beatable) than the 1/2 games. he's noticed this on HE limit - i've noticed the samething in omaha hi/lo limit.
but i can't figure out why?
