I thought I posted this last night, but it was kinda late.....
Anyway, Fnord's post, about having an FTR table, got me thinking. We should have a limit ring game series, with a weekly, or bi-weekly game, and monthly, or quarterly prizes. With poker-tracker running the entire time, it will be easy to determine who wins the most.
In Fnord's post, there was a debate about playing higher stakes so that everyone would play their best (as opposed to UTG raising J2o preflop, just so you can post the hand history and be soooo cool). I beleive competing, to win the series, will eliminate most of this.
My 2¢: the series is less about the money and more about improving our game, playing eachother, and having fun with fellow forum members. Please include your thoughts on this in your replies
These are the main questions to sort out. I want to hear some ideas first, then post a poll next weekend, to get everything finalized.
1 - Are there enough players to have a full table once, twice, thrice a week?
2 - What site to play at? I think party/empire would be the best because ease of pokertracker importing. However, pokerstars has 2¢/4¢ tables, and UB has 1¢/2¢
3 - When to have the games, and how long, how frequent?
4 - What stakes to play? The debate ensues of playing higher stakes for better quality of play vs lower stakes which allow more people to play. And dont forget, micros have no rake 8-)
5 - How to determined the winner? BB/100 or total winnings?
6 - Prizes, preferably something forum related that wouldnt cost Tyson/Xianti any money
7 - Should we mix in 6-max, NL games. Or have 1st quater with full table limit, 2nd quater full table NL, 3rd quater 6-max limit, 4th quarter 6-max NL
These are all just options and suggestions to get people thinking; please post what you think would be best.

not sure about twice and thrice, but i'm pretty sure we can get a full table once a week

1 or 2 hours, or maybe after 100 or 200 hands.

i like the microlimits just to get the most # of people playing

this will be most difficult as even the best players have losing streaks over 1000 hands. the league will need to go on for a long time before these stats can be used to determine the winner. the problem with either bb/100 or winnings is that they can change A LOT from session to session.

we could all probably chip in money to create a pool.

SnGs are probably sufficient for determining NL skillz

I think this is where it hurts. Unless you were going to have a table daily for a couple hours the win rate is rather useless, so is the amount won.

I think we could get enough interest at the .5/1 level or even the 1/2 level. 2/4 would be best but we dont have enough 2/4 players yet to make this a sure thing.

I agree with Hyper, it could even be a formula based on number of hands and amount won. However streaks of cards are apparent whatever game you play, if you are cold one day then you are just cold.

I could use some FTR gear, and if everyone payed a dollar who played it would more than cover it. or any other amount for that matter.

I wouldnt, only because each game is significantly different, and the NL tycoons already have the gauntlet for themselves. 6 max LHE and full table LHE could be the only two possible. Other options could include LHE sngs (*gag*) or LHE Heads-Up tournies at stars.
