Okay I went in for some 7CS HiLo today. Pretty cool game, there. I read Sklansky's bit in Super/System and have a question:

"?!@?!?!?!?!!?"

Do you guys really calculate all that stuff at 80+ hands per hour?

A more specific question: I'm cool with going for both ends of the pot, but if you have to give up the scoop, how do you know when/if to give up the Whole Hand? Use normal 7CS thinking?

Another more specific question: how do you adjust for the 8 qualifier? Seems like that puts the "always go low" principle in doubt.

TLR is an unknown quantity at this point
I only play 7 stud hi-lo at home games

I limit my starting hands in hi-lo much more then I do in in 7 stud hi

Regarding low hands I only play low hand if I the first 3 cards are below 8 and there are not many low cards that I still need as door cards. If I dont hit another low cards at 5th street I fold.

Aces are 'worth' much more in this game then in hi only games.

Great starting hands are 3 suited low cards or 3 cards to a straight (5-6-7)

High pairs (JJ, TT, 99) are much more problematic to play in hi-lo, and I tend to fold them

Maybe I should clarify:

I've got a basic idea of the starting hands, when they're good, when they're really good, etc.

One thing that was odd is that Sklansky doesn't talk much about the "No Low" possibility (the 8 qualifier). In which case you can frequently scoop if you're a heavy favorite for high and you see the opp catching bad for low.

Like I've had some success with play like this:

I find the 2-3 people (max) at the table who really do have starting hand requirements. If my door is lower than theirs, I'll raise at 3rd even if I've got paint in the hole. 4 out of 5 times this will narrow it down noticeably. Of the 3-4 remaining, 2 will catch bad on 4th so I'll bet again unless I'm one of them.

It's a way of playing sub-par hands with (what I think is) an awareness of the rampant sucker factor in HiLo.

Again, I'm only just dabbling in the game. Feel free to say something like

"LeFou, stop playing like that NOW or you will be creamed
