I'd be pissed that the boat gave you credit for the royal and didn't give you any action on the river

Yeah...same here...
Would you guys play the same as UTG or would you raise? I'd think long and hard and possibly raise there...only one card beats me

Not only does Jh beat UTG's queens full of tens, but so does pocket QK, AQ, KK, AA for a higher boat. AA/KK can be mostly discounted because of no preflop raise, but AQ is a hand some people might check in the BB, and KQ is a hand a lot of people would check in the big blind. I'm guessing UTG was more scared of a higher boat than the royal flush, but probably considered the royal as part of his decision to check.

bet the flop... seriously. No one is giving you credit for anything out of the bb in an unraised pot. you are either getting action or you aren't, might as well make the most of the action you can.

your turn play killed your river action more than the Ah ever could. It screams "nut flush" or better.

Finally, UTG capped the turn. this gives you free reighn on a checkraise. maybe he'll raise your river bet if he does have a boat, but I think I call there with QT also. your slowplay was too obvious.

Congrats on the royal though. I still haven't had one in over 2 years of play.
To win in poker you only need to be one step ahead of your opponents. Two steps may be detrimental.

I hit my first this weekend after 50K hands, hopefully they are going around.

Yup, I definitely lost value by not betting the flop harder. Problem with 5 handed though, is that players will cap a turn there with just trips and then retreat when it is obvious someone has a flush. I didn't want to check and lose a bet on the river.
