You're drawing dead to either the str8 or flush but there is a small chance your opponent was on top-pair, or two-pair.
Without a read on your opponent that would suggest that either: he'd play top-pair or two-pair aggressively, or that he is capable of rep'ing the flush or str8, laying down those aces is definitely the right play.
That's a play that I personally need to learn to do more frequently (with Ks, Qs, & Js too!).
If the pot was bigger would you consider calling this down? If so, how much bigger would it have to be?
If you had the Ace of spades would you call his raise to see if you can spike another spade on the river, or again is the pot too small to even bother?
