Been working on applying some principles from HEPAP, which I just got through for the first time. This one is: if you flop a good but vulnerable hand, wait until a safe turn comes before getting the raise in.
(Actually, I think he said if an overcard is unlikely to hurt you, you can give a free card. For some reason I didn't think opps had any aces, so I did.)

I thought so too, and therefore chose to bet out the river. What do you think?

Eh. Betting out definitely has its merits.
I lean towards check/call here, with the logic being that he may bet hands that he wouldn't call a raise with (busted flush draws, ace high, etc), but then, who can say what junk he might call a river bet with?
The only problem is that I really don't want to call a river raise, but I'm pretty sure I can't fold if I bet the river and he raises.

If you just call the turn, I would probably check/call the river too. Give him a chance to bluff and give yourself a chance to see a showdown relatively cheaply.
And like Tyler said, leading the river ain't bad if you have the guy pegged as a scare card bluffer.
HEPFAP principles will likely just get you into trouble at this level. SSH fo life!

When anyone is close to all-in I give them unlimited action.

There's not too many hands here that would beat you that would have reasonably entered the pot without raising.. 88 maybe.
Your hand is good hear most of the time. I check and plan to call if he bets.. I can't put him on a three and 88 is remote. He'f probably bluffing on the turn and if you bet the river, a fold can usually be expected. I try to win that extra bet.
