I got the following scenerio out of a book. I don't remember the exact limit. Anyway we have AK on a flop of 999. First to act bets and the next 2 players call. Now it is our turn the book says to fold as someone likely has a 9. Isn't that just a little to tight. I mean the truth is it is doubtful that anyone has a 9. So long as nobody has that case 9 or pocket kings or queens we have 6 outs.

Not likely. Plus you're almost certainly drawing to a split even if you pair one of your cards.

People over play Ax in this situation, so youre probably drawing to half.

so lets give ourselves 3 outs and go from there. We know the pot has 3 small bets in it from flop action. Honestly i do not remenber if the pot was raised pf in this example. To play it safe lets say it wasn't so we have atleast 4 small bets from the flop The first in plus the 2 limpers plus us. So thats 7 small bets. In essence giving us 7-1 on our call which is not enough for 3 outs. So maybe a call is not so good after all.

That's a much better point. Although I don't think we have six outs if we're behind, I agree we're ahead a LOT.

we have exactly seven outs if we are behind
of course, if someone has a 9 we have no outs but if we are behind we have every out possible. I say we raise and make all of our outs clean. The raise could also be a value bet...

With a bet and 2 calls, I don't think we're ahead very often here. It's very likely that someone has a small-mid pair. Still, folding for one bet on the flop is criminal, especially in position.

Some days it feels like I've been standing forever, waiting for the bank teller to return so I can cash in all these Sklansky Bucks.

personally i do not think i would ever fold for 1 bet. Even if you guesstimate that you only have 3 outs you must also think about the chance that you are already ahead. A/k is a monster when the flop shows a set. Now if someone starts 2 beting then maybe the decesion is a little more difficult but for 1 bet i am gona atleast see the turn
