look at this hand. i swear the guy never realized he got counterfeited. a river raise? wow.
i didnt play it that well early on...a bit loosey...i will explain my thoughts though, and if i was way off, please correct me.
PokerStars 0.10/0.20 Hold'em (5 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver)
Preflop: Hero is BB with A , K .
UTG raises, 2 folds, SB calls, Hero 3-bets, UTG caps, SB calls, Hero calls.
obvious cap at these stakes.
Flop: (12 SB) 5 , J , J (3 players)
SB bets, Hero calls, UTG raises, SB calls, Hero calls.
i had doubts that someone hit trips. figured that w/ a 6BB pot, its going huge, i planned to call one sb, but that raise really pissed me off (IT made me think J). i was reluctant to call, but one more bet and i close action. too loose?
Turn: (9 BB) J (3 players)
SB checks, Hero checks, UTG bets, SB calls, Hero calls.
now with the third J on the board, i no longer fear the J. i am betting i am up against a boat, and figure to overboat them if the A or the K fall. not to mention the slight chance i am still good with the A kicker. i figure you gambool a bit in the biggies, and drop off the smallish pots most times. right?
River: (12 BB) J (3 players)
SB checks, Hero bets, UTG raises, SB calls, Hero calls.
well, this is license to bet my butt off. i have to lead at least once. i dont really want to pump the rake, but these guys can be dumb enough to think i hold a Q to their K, so you never know. i assume, with the nuts, you bet your butt off, and let the rake take what it will.
Final Pot: 18 BB
all in all, it worked well for me this time. this is why i like limit... you can shift gears in the same hand. going from "pot control" to aggression on the flip of one magical card. sucks to have your boat counterfeited for the world to see, but i've had it happen to me, too.\
one had pocket T's and i guess never saw the fourth J. the other had 87s. wtf? and called a river raise. he must not understand the concept of kickers, and thought the pot would be split. hell, maybe they both thought that. after a couple other decent pots, i kicked off my shoes and ordered a cocktail...planning on sitting at the all-fish table for AWHILE.
this hand, though, goes into my Top 5 dummest villains...

You absolutely have to raise this river. Cap it, let the rake take what it wants, the times you win will pay for all the extra rake youve ever generated in these spots and then some.
I'm folding on the flop. Capped flop by UTG, and SB suddenly leads out, youre beat beat beat.
Turn is interesting, if you think your A or K is clean you have 6 outs getting 11:1 and youre 6.5ish:1 to hit, so you can call, but I'm not real keen on your outs being all that clean.
Just fold the flop.

i have no idea why i didnt RR the river, but i guess i was "certain" the only hand that would do that was another A. i've actually seen a couple other situations since where i kept putting on the gas, and a couple paid, and a couple split. but i was SHOCKED to see anyone call an obvious split with less that the nuts.
kinda thought it was a risk that paid off, but as i said...
i wasnt sold on the trips yet, and then the raise, when i was mentally comitted to seeing the turn, for only one more small bet, and from there, i felt i improved (which i didnt). got lucky.
being "mentally comitted" to seeing the next card HAS to be a money loser. i dont do it often, but it has to lose simply for the fact you start ignoring your reads and gambooling it up.
