you don't bet the turn getting at least 7.75:1 on your 12-outer?

Plenty of cards you can hit here, you're getting like 7-1 or something like that, so I'd bet it easy.

my friend, whenever you have such a strong draw, 9 outs to the flush + 3 to the straight, you only need 3:1 odds to continue. if you have at least 1 opponent and at least 2 bets in the pot -- which is ALWAYS -- then you have correct odds to bet. so you don't have to do any calculations, just jam it.
if you only had the flush draw, the free card play might be more sensible, but you still have so many opponents that your odds will probably be correct.

the theory is that you will miss most of your draws but when you hit, you will recover all those losses and then some. so you get more variance, which is what you seem to be afraid of, but you also get a lot more reward in the long run.
you can't argue with the math.
also, by being more aggressive with your draws, you will make more money from folding down opponents without even completing your draw. and you will get paid more when you hit because they won't put you on it. suddenly waking up when a third heart hits is a surefire way to not get called.

I think he played it fine. The only compelling reason I see to bet that turn is because you think your opponents might all fold. Given that board...
