MF, before I read the results I was goign to post that I would've pussied out of 3 betting the river to an obvious drawer, then thought you won so I didn't want to look stupid.

I put MP on hearts for what it's worth, didn't see that one coming.

I dont see any way that the river threebet increases your chances of winning that pot.

This seems like very bad advice without looking at the board and who is raising you...

Smells like KT, looks like KT... I just call the river.

He has KT here more than half the time. regardless, you have 4 players calling at the river. Keep raising. If it were HU, you could maybe call the river raise.
To win in poker you only need to be one step ahead of your opponents. Two steps may be detrimental.

I agree with the 1st half of this. I'm not sure I understand the 2nd half. You're raising b/c you are beat more than 50% of the time, but you're only putting in about 25% of the money? Doesn't this just increase your variance (lose/win the max)? BTW what do you think MP has the other times? 99? 7h 8h ?

yes, since you are winning 50% of the time, and putting in 25% of the money, the raise is for value.
2 pair and a smaller set are both possibilities for alternative hands.
The raise increases variance, but it increases your winrate also. If you are properly bankrolled, your only concern should be to increase your winnings. Variance is just a side effect.

In fact the 2 most useless stats to worry about are variance and BB/100. You should simply try to make the best decision at every opportunity. If you do that, you can only hope that these 2 stats fall in line. It is ridiculous to try to control them in a game based mainly on luck.
To win in poker you only need to be one step ahead of your opponents. Two steps may be detrimental.
