Actually no. I really like Omaha and O8. But occasionally it can be a frustrating, ruinous game... an ill wind that blows no good. Especially when noobs are involved. Last night I played in a home game where we did mainly pot-limit Omaha, and one of the players was new to the game (and not good at hold 'em, either, from my past experience with him).

Two hands with this guy:

1. My friend Kevin got into a pot with the new guy - let's call him Frosty, for reasons that are neither here nor there. Kevin had a typical combo-draw and Frosty... well, god knows what he thought he had, or what he was drawing to. Kevin kept betting and Frosty came along for the ride. On the river Kevin missed his draws, but the board was very straight-friendly so he fired out a last desperate bet, which once again Frosty smooth-called. Kevin flipped his cards over in mild annoyance and said "Pair of fives!" Frosty fumbled with his hand and flipped over two of his cards, announcing "Straight." We stared at the cards and told him "3456 is not a straight." And that was right - he only had four in a row, not five. Kevin started chuckling and raking the pot. Then someone piped up and said "What are your other two?" as he hadn't turned them over. He threw over pocket aces, and Kevin glowered as the chips went the other way.

2. So of course I thought that was all hilarious. A few orbits later, I picked up AAT2 two-suited. Kevin put in a small raise from the cutoff, I called from the button, and Frosty came along again. The flop was a mixed bag: 34T rainbow. I had top pair, an overpair, and a gutshot draw - not much, but I couldn't imagine Kevin having more than that. Frosty checked, Kevin bet the pot, and I called, as did Frosty. On the turn I got the card I really wanted, a 5. Frosty checked, Kevin bet about half the pot, and I came over the top of him for a big raise. He looked disgusted as Frosty cold-called the two bets, and then laid his hand down. The river was a 6 and the board had no flush possibilities. I hated the card, but there was no way to tell if it put me behind in the hand - the noob could have anything at all and it wouldn't surprise me. Now figuring it might be better if I didn't have to show down, I bet the last couple of dollars to put Frosty all in, hoping he'd fold. The pot was huge, so that last couple of dollars didn't mean a whole lot in the grand scheme of things as far as I was concerned. I was hoping it would buy me a tiny amount of fold equity, but Frosty called - emphatically - and turned over two cards: a 3 and a 4 for bottom two pair. I smiled and showed my straight. As my hand reached for the pot, Kevin smirked and said "What are your other two?" Frosty flipped them over - a 7 and an 8 for the runner-runner nut straight.

omaha is such a crazy game, even with a hand like aces up, you might be dead in the water.
take your ego out of the equation and judge the situation dispassionately

TLR is an unknown quantity at this point
You ran into someone who has no clue about the game but has tons of beginner luck - it happens. In the long run you will make money off this guy.

In our home game the rule is that you can show all 4 cards, but if you choose to show only two you lose even if the other two beat the winning hand

Is "Frosty" by any chance Sylvester Stallone?
It's not what's inside that counts. Have you seen what's inside?
Internal organs. And they're getting uglier by the minute.
