...Or so I thought. There is some talk around here about table selection, so recently I've been monitoring tables with gametime (not GT+ because it's stupid and only uses stats for that session...why?) and trying to find good places to sit. Sometimes I'll search for a good spot for half an hour. The general advice given around here seems that you want tight players to your left and all the loose ones to your right. So last night I found a spot with 4 people to my left with a VP$IP of less than 20%. But the other 5 morons were so high that it brought the table average to around 35-40%.

So I guess my question is, is it ok to be playing at tables with such a high average VP$IP? Is it good money, but variance hell...or even harder to beat than a table with 25% VP$IP?

I'm leaning towards variance hell...a couple of the other tighties managed to make a lot, but the luck was just not with me last night.

Having the tight players on your left helps reduce variance. When you have position on all the loose players but the tight players have position on you, you can raise to force the tighter players to define their hand. A lot of times they are folding and you are left in position with a bunch of fish. If they 3-bet you, you know you're up against a real hand.

Overall, the more people seeing the flop, the higher the variance is going to be. Also, the higher your profits are going to be. People have to be entering the pot with a pot equity deficit if so many are routinely seeing the flop.

Hand selection is important. Your top pair hands go way down in value and suited connectors and one cappers go way up in value with position.

If you can adjust your starting requirements and style of play to fit well with a loose table, the tables can be so profitable, variance almost becomes a non-factor, provided you are properly rolled.
