Had this last night before I went to bed: I got KK in LP (pp .50/1). I raised and I got 2 callers. The flop was A 4 6 . I got a bet and a reraise in front of me. That tells me that both of them (or at least one) had aces and I laid it down. Was this the right play or should I have cold called or 3bet?
Come to find out, I hit my 2 outer with a K on the turn and quit playing shortly after that so I wouldn't go on tilt.

With a bet and a reraise in front of you, second pair is almost undoubtably no good, and this is an easy lay down.

Remember, you are not gauranteed to win with kings or aces. They are just a high pair.

Help yourself -- after you fold, don't watch for your two outer and think, "FUCK! I SHOULDNT HAVE FOLDED I WOULD HAVE WON!" It doesnt matter what the results are, it only matters what the correct play is.

usually i'll peel one off the flop for the very reason i'll get paid off good when a K comes on the turn.

I thought this was a straightforward fold.

Assuming the first bettor just calls, the pot only has ten bets in it. Can you really justify aiming for a 1:22 shot for TWO more small bets when the pot only has ten bets in it? Especially when you are not closing the action, and could end up in a 3-bet or capped pot? I don't think implied odds make up for it.

wow hyper........that advice sucks. I mean come on, if someone bets and another raises you are going to call 2 cold to try and hit a 2 outer. This is a terrible losing money play.

dannyd yes you are correct in laying down the kings, not fun to lay down, but you have to sometimes.

Thanks for the responses and the support. I LOVE getting KK and I HATE seeing a flop with an A in it. Just wanted to verify that I did the right thing. At least I did go away last night with some positive cash flow.

I am a noob, but I play the same as danny. easy fold. However in some cases you should proceed. I have a hand from yesterday (dont have the hand history here as im at work..lOL) but it goes something like this.

I am UTG+1 with KK

I raise preflop and get 3 callers.

Flop: A-A-10 (suit not important)

I bet, MP3 calls, Button calls.

Turn: A-A-10-J

I bet,MP3 calls, Button raises, I call, MP3 calls.

( at this point i have told myself regardless of board I am taking it to showdown. a queen makes me a straight, a K makes me a full house and if another A comes i am stilltaking it to showdown ).

River: A-A-10-J-x

I check, MP3 checks, Button bets, I call, MP3 calls.

MP3 has Jx
Button has q-10

I take the pot. granted sometimes someone will have the ace but how this hand plays out, button could easily have the Ace and I pay him off here.

was my line or reasoning wrong here folks . I do make the laydown like danny did based on that action though.

Pokerlearner: Yes, I'd say you played it right. You had plenty of outs to continue betting. An A for a fullhouse, a K for a fullhouse, a Q for the nut straight, and your hand might be good already. But I'm betting you see the power of position staring you in the face. If any time was a time to be on the button, this is it.

I "might've" played it a little different if the flop came down as AAT.
ALOT of people would bet w/ the 10. I remember reading somewhere that when a flop includes a pair, the odds are pretty low that someone has made his set.
On the other hand, if there is a raise and a reraise in front of me...i have to respect the Ace.

In your case you just had first action and you bet and both players called behind you. That would've made me feel alot better about my KK.
