Ok, so yesterday I was at the local poker place, Derby Lanes, in St. Pete FL. I like to just go in and buy in with $20-$50 and play a little $2/$2 LHE just for fun. 5 hands in a row I told myself to call. I'd flop a pair, and catch another pair on the river, but folded pre-flop, J2os, 23os, 83os and just random stuff like that. All in all, I was down to $2 from the original $30 I bought in with, so I reach into my wallet for my last $10. So I'm sitting here with $12.

I'm in 3rd position, with 6c7d. I call the blind. Everyone else calls. Action gets back to the blind, which at this place theres only one big blind, in which I wait for him to check, but he takes his option to raise to $4. Second position calls, and I tell myself I need to call this since I have a gut instinct about the flop. So I call, and have $8 left. I'm just sitting here praying that the flop hits me. Flop comes, 6d-6s-7h. So I'm sitting here looking at my cards again to make sure I had 6-7 and not 8-2 or something else. (one time I took a quick glance at my cards thought I had pocket aces, but actually had Ace 4,lol stupid me, but still won that pot. thats another story for next time...) First position checks, second checks, I check in fear that I would scare everyone out. It gets checked all the way around. Turn card, 6h. Betting round starts. First position bets $2, I raise to $4. And to my amazement there are more callers than I would ever expect. River, Jd. First position bets with $2 again, So i raise, all-in with my $8. Everyone calls again. I'm starting to like this, but wonder, what in the name of everything poker are these people calling with. No flush or straight potential. So first position rolls over his cards. Pocket kings, everyone else mucks. I roll over the nuts and the guy pretty much starts mumbling things under his breath. About 10 hands before that, the same guy lost to quad jacks. So he is probably a little bit upset losing to quads again. Was that a good move to check the flop? thanks for the advice in advance.

I've played at $2/$2 at the Melbourne Race Track's Poker Room. Just bet you hand the whole way. People are going to call you down almost every time (especially since the turn and river are the same price as the flop).

Beyond that, I think your game has a lot of leaks. My best advice is to buy "Small Stakes Holdem" by Ed Miller if you play at that place often. I also like "Weighing the Odds" by King Yao. And instead of going to that track, put your next $50 online and start practicing a lot at the micro limits.

Good Luck!

just like you did with J2o, 23o, and 83o? i mean they werent even sooooted.

pretty lucky, imo.

but yes, just bet all the way. if you get lucky, like you did flopping the boat, someone will raise, and you can "get jiggy with it" from there.
LHE is a game where your skill keeps you breakeven until you hit your rush of random BS.

Nothing beats flopping quads while dropping a duece!
