If you have no reason to believe a check raise will work, what can you do? Check/call then check/raise the turn or just bet out?

This might not be the best example, but I hope you understand anyway. Help is appreciated.

remember, the most important idea from SSHE about protecting your hand is that the pot must be big. 4 small bets probably isn't worth protecting using 2 small bets. there will be better situations to protect your hand with check raises.
