Party Poker 5/10 Hold'em (9 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is SB with 6, 6.
UTG calls, 6 folds, Hero completes, BB checks.

Flop: (3 SB) 7, 6, 6 (3 players)
Hero checks, BB checks, UTG checks.

Turn: (1.50 BB) T (3 players)
Hero checks, BB bets, UTG calls, Hero calls.

River: (4.50 BB) Q (3 players)
Hero checks, BB checks, UTG bets, Hero raises, BB folds, UTG calls.

Final Pot: 8.50 BB

Results in white below:
UTG has Td Qd (two pair, queens and tens).
Hero has 6h 6d (four of a kind, sixes).
Outcome: Hero wins 8.50 BB.

Well, okay, I admit I should raise preflop but i wasnt paying attention. When my quads came on the flop I was looking to maximize the pot. BB and UTG were the average weak tighties and I think the only way they would stay in the pot with that board if one of them caught the flush or something.

I value-raise the turn and bet the river. They both have called for 1 bb on the turn and I don't think they will fold for 1 more (but like you said, they are weak..).

This is the type of hand that position makes it sooo much easier to play. You don't have position on them, what if the river got checked behind you? If you did have position, I think you can just call the turn, but when first to act I think you must bet the river, which means you can raise the turn.

Hi Jeff

Nice hand. I would have played it like you did, hoping the board would 4 flush. But, an 8 or 9 of spades on the river would have got your heart going -lol

I assume, although you didn't do it, that you advocate a pre-flop raise from your SB position with your 66 to (i) possibly eliminate the BB, and (ii) set up a possible steal on the flop or turn, correct? You don't have any pre-flop pot equity edge, so the pre-flop raise you suggest is not for the purpose of building the pot.

I know you slowed down flop-onwards in hopes of getting your opponents to 'catch-up', however, the BB did bet the turn, so even if you raised him and he called, and the BB folded you would have got the same number of BBs in on the turn. I think you played it right, and here's why ........

The way you played it resulted in:

TURN: 2 BBs (two callers, one BB from each)
River: 2BBs (induced bet plus raise-call from one opponent)

Versus: Raise on the Turn and Value Bet on the River instead (assuming BB folded to Turn raise, and other opponent checked to you on river):

TURN: 2BBs (one caller but, 2BBs from him calling your raise)
River: 1BB (opp. checks you bet, he calls)

If you had a reasonable confidence that both opps would call a Turn raise and a river bet, then you would have got in more bets, but with your weak-tight read that seems unlikely.

Does that sound like a reasonable analysis?

Bet the flop. Give them a chance to make bad calls or decide to play back at you with a draw. Players are much more likely to call/raise with cards to come, so when you flop a monster try to get your money in early.

Hmmm, good points everyone.

What Gabe said I would believe to be true if I DIDNT bet the flop, then a raise on the turn would most certainly give me more bets.

Betting on the flop could give them a chance to overcall, i was torn between betting and checking and, hestitently i chose check (I mean, how often do you flop quads). If there were more people in the pot I would have bet without a thought, hoping for a raise. Then I would check raise the turn and go from there.

The limited number of people in the pot, as well as the weakness of the players really threw off my play.
