fold pre flop for the pot size raise OOP!!

as played hmmm... looks like we're coinflipping aganst a lot of hands, and getting crushed by some (notably AAxx with NFD, AQxx with NFD)

but we have a lot of equity against the combinations involving straight draws.

He's a short stack too. I think the hand is good enough to felt against 40BB stack. I don't think you can fold a better hand than your own (except maybe AQxx with no Ad). So it's about getting value from inferior hands.

I think you're line is fine if you think he'll actually bet some inferior hands.
Otherwise you have to lead.
You need reads here. But once he bets, raising is fine. Slightly smaller reraise to $17 or so intending to put the rest in on the turn probably a little better.

Yes you might be crushed, but if you don't double up a shortie occasionally you ain't trying hard enough. Fold preflop and save yourself this predicament

Well he did open fairly loose and the whole table was kinda loose, so I figured I could play fit or fold vs a shortstack in this spot.

He had AQJ4 with no diamonds and I didn't improve but I do have a fairly goot equity against his hand, no?
