My my reasoning for asking this questions relate to live games. Ive played a lot of limit in casinos, but I plan on playing a lot more this year. However, I really didnt understand how to play the game effectively when I did. I played a very weak tight game, didnt play a lot of hands, etc and made quite a bit. In games like stud its a bit more obvious as you can always calculate the percentage of th ante vs the big bet, combined with the table dynamic and you can produce a pretty decent strategy on how to play 3 and 4th street. What kind of adjustments can I make in my hold'em ga,e to overcome the extra rake/jackpot that is pulled out of the pot?

Play a higher limit? While that will reduce the effect of rake, it's probably not the answer you were looking for.

If you plan on staying at a limit where the rake is big, the only adjustment to make is to avoid getting involved in situations where your edge is very small, because that edge will be eaten up by the rake and you will have been better off just folding. The bigger the rake is compared to the limit, the bigger the edge that you have to pass up will be.

I don't play much live poker, so I can't back up those statements with experience. But it seems that live or not, if the rake is high, the above statements are still valid.

I play 5/10 with the thoughts of moving up to 10/20 when there is good games. So its not like the 2/4 or 3/6 games that have rake problems, but the rake is still a lot more when compared to online.

I'm assuming we are referring to live games? In live games I don't think you need to adjust to the rake because of the tendency of the loose donks will make up for it, what is dropped max $5 usually? So it would be easier to beat it at the higher level...

If we were talking online well i would think that based on stakes given the rake structure is the same for 2/4 though 10/20, it becomes a different thought all together...
