I am so F***ing frustrated, I just punched my neighbor in the head (he was kinda asking for it though).

Is this river crap supposed to happen in more than 50% of my showdowns, or am I just doing the math wrong. I won't play limit for bigger money until I can fix this leak. Please let me know if I played this correctly.

This is completely standard and doesn't even begin to qualify as a bad beat. Even after you hit your straight on the turn, he was drawing to any A, Q, T, or 8 to complete is house. If you really wanna fix some leaks, post some hands where both players don't have monsters and hands that basically auto-play themselves.

Also, for what it's worth, I probably just go ahead and lead the flop and then after he 3-bets the turn, I am just check-calling the river with that board.

bet/calling the river is retarded. You'll get raised when you're beat but you'll only get a call when youre winning. Net effect is putting more money in when youre behind and gaining nothing when youre ahead.

Check/call the river, other than that its pretty standard.

And I'm folding preflop.

Yeah, I was going to say raise preflop. You should be willing to take a limpers money when they offer it to you.

Even if you somehow knew you had the worst starting hand, raising still probably has a higher expectation than the alternative plays if your opponent plays badly postflop (which is likely the case).

At .10/.20, is there ANY reason not to think opp is jamming with just trips that he thinks are still good? There is no reason I can think of to believe the river card helped him, I'm probably even going to put in the 3rd bet on the river.
