as I have mentioned in some post before I play only B&M games now ($4-$8 level).

I have a question regarding this LAGGY player who plays at same levels. Some info about him.

* He limps in a lot of pots and a lot of the times he bets the whole way out of position (and a lot of people chase and chase and if sometimes someone calls on the river, he shows busted draws, Ace high) but other times will show good hands. Very aggressive player.

* If he raises from blinds, it doesnt mean shit. could be any 2 suited cards and by the river he might have the stright or flush and you are holding only TPTK or 2 pair .

*i do know he doesnt follow pot odds (calls a raise on the turn with a gutshot and no other draw...). however because of his laggy play he drags monster pots because he gets action. but he will drop a rack or two fast too.

well i could go on and on but you get the picture.

yesterday night we were in same pot only like 1-2 times so maybe i dont need any specfic strategy but since i am looking t0 move up sometime i would appreciate if you guys could give me some pointers (i might encounter similar players in other tables, higher limits...).

My questions:

1) If he checkraises me on turn, is it ok to call down with TPTK. How about Middle pair ? basically call down Heads up with any pair right.

2) Should I only raise him with set or better ? i know it sounds ridiculous, but this guy is liable to show you any card..(including nothing ). while you think your TPTK is good, he might be sitting on 2 raggeddy pair.

3) try to have position on him and only play premium cards. Since most of the pots he plays will be raised, just because he doesnt have anything is of no value. pot is big and you get multiway action so game will be swingy for me if i get involved.

4) find a different table...

i hate to say this but i am kinda wary (read "afraid to tangle") with this guy. I mean whenever i have gone up against him, i do win most of the pots but lose some BIG POTS to his raggeddy hands. its like when i win, i dont win much, but when i lose, i lose a big pot.

What's his raising standard post-flop? Check/raising? Flop vs turn? The great thing about active players is that with so many hands being played you can get very good reads on them very quickly. Just because he'll bet with air, it doesn't mean he'll (check) raise with it.

Be more inclined to just call him heads-up if he'll fire on every street with just air but will back off if rasied. However, I think you still have value raises on hands like 2 pair and pairs with re-draws, etc. Even mix in semi-bluffs to keep him feeding you action.

Get position and 3-bet a lot. If he's raising trash, KJo, A9s, etc. are all hands to consider 3-betting him with depending on the other action and the rest of the players.

Suck it up and gamble with him. This is where the expert money is made!

My biggest problem with guys like this is that I'll spank them with middle pair, then they'll cut off my action. I tend to draw comments like "watch out for this guy" even when I'm running bad. Yet another reason I don't like live poker

I remember I sat down at a 4-8 table with Mister "low card theory". He was on a rush and talking all about low cards being good when there is lots of action, etc.

Well, my high stuff was catching and he wasn't too keen when I would auto-3-bet his ass pre-flop and giggle like a school girl when he capped it back. He dropped over 2 racks pretty quickly and I got the best of it, then he left with less than a rack.

Thanks a lot Fnord. I will keep all these pointers in mind and especially what kind of hands he check raises with on big streets.

Here is an interesting play by him.

was villain's raise on the turn a good raise ?? given he only has flush draw. the king alone should not be any good
Kill Pot $8-16$
Hero is 10-10 UTG+1
Villain is button

Preflop: UTG calls, Hero raises, MP1 3 bets, MP2 calls, MP3 calls, Villain caps, SB calls, BB calls, UTg calls, Hero calls., MP1 calls, MP2 calls, MP3 calls

Flop (32 sb approx): Q-Q-J rainbow
MP1 bets, EVERYONE CALLS.

Turn: Q-Q-J-7 2 diamonds
MP1 bets, Villain raises, SB calls, MP1 calls everyone else folds

River: Q-Q-J-7-J
MP1 checks, Villain checks, Sb checks.

MP1 shows AK
Villain shows K-8 diamonds for missed flush
SB shows A-Js

Mine is the opposite. when i raise my PP i will get some action and maybe by the river my PP will hold up, maybe not.

but whenever i raise big suited broadways and board is raggeddy but gives me 4 flush...i never checkraise....(3 bet maybe if its raised)....i bet the whole way and get 4-5 callers all along the way.

Because of my tight image they always think that i am betting my AA, KK (hence overvaluing my overpair). and then i show them my flush... If i raise and board shows any K or A it kills my action but raggeddy board, i get calls all day long....
