This guy loved to bet into pre-flop raisers. He had taken down several pots without showing with this general line:

PokerStars Limit Hold'em, $0.50 BB (9 handed) - Poker-Stars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

Preflop: Hero is MP3 with K, A
UTG raises, 1 fold, MP1 calls, 1 fold, Hero 3-bets, 4 folds, UTG calls, MP1 calls

Flop: (10.4 SB) 7, 3, 4 (3 players)
UTG bets, MP1 calls, Hero raises, UTG calls, MP1 calls

Turn: (8.2 BB) 4 (3 players)
UTG checks, MP1 bets, Hero raises, 1 fold, MP1 calls

River: (12.2 BB) J (2 players)
MP1 checks, Hero checks

Total pot: $6.10 (12.2 BB) | Rake: $0.25

Results:
MP1 had Q, K (one pair, fours).
Hero had K, A (one pair, fours).
Outcome: Hero won $5.85

i think that is an interesting read on MP1 to be honest with you. it looks reactionary to donkey suddenly checking, but i dont know how much value we usually have in this spot to raise him. KQ surprises me a bit.

nh, sir.

KQ didn't surprise me at all. He automatically bet into pre-flop raisers, flop and turn. That tells me that he was doing it with basically the entirely of his pre-flop, out of position calling range.

AK is, of course, good against that range.

Further, he just called the flop bet in front ofhim, which is a big-time tell. If he had something valuable, he raises that flop.

So basically I decided that since I had a hand that was good against his range, and I had position, it was +EV to pump the pot (to isolate against him) and see the showdown against him. On the river, I have position and at that point I figure I am only being called by better.

Interestingly, this type of player-- the donk into the pre-flop raiser type-- is someone that I encounter a lot online and hardly at all live. Live, the standard play is to check-raise the pre-flop raiser, not bet into him.

i agree based on what little i've seen, too. when they donk, they have something pretty strong.....and usually they wait to c/r the turn.

for some reason in our local casinos, there seems to be little flop play.....more simple calling down. the big hands announce themselves on the turn or river. usually, though, by then, they have a lot of outs out against them because they did nothing to narrow a 6 handed field on the flop with TPTK.

they dont even seem to c/r the flop around here.

and, fwiw, you will see it a ton at microNL games. they weak lead with minbets. it completely tilts me when i have crap and wanted to cbet. they sometimes have a hand they intend on calling down with, but most times it's a draw.
