I have never really been a frequenter of this particular forum, but I think I am going to start playing more HORSE a little. I played my first tourney last night (1+.1 at stars.)
I was wondering, who are the resident HORSE experts here, and if you wouldn't mind, could I PM you for your AIM so that we could chat a little? Though AIM would be preferred, IRC works too. I appreciate any help. Thanks guys!

Im by no means an expert in anything..lol.
But ill tell you what people told me when i posted this in another forum.
You may want to concentrate on one or two games at a time as opposed to 5. Even though $1 HORSE tourneys are fairly soft, it might be better to learn the games individually.
What are your best and worst games???
How much experience do you have in each game???

this is more my venture into other forms of poker than a serious bankroll move. I plan on playing ridiculously overrolled for the stakes, and just trying to pick up as much as I can, as quickly as I can. Also, I like the change in HORSE. I think I have an advantage over a very good percentage of the field in HE. Even if it is LHE. I also think that I will quickly gain the advantage in the H/L split games. The others I will work on as I go. I was just wondering if there was someone who could go over the specific nuances related to HORSE. Not just the individual games. Like, which games are more profitable, and which should be played faster/slower than others. Stuff that has to do with decisions based on the next level and game. Whether or not a tell can be carried over from one game to the next and how. These among other things would provide me a great learning experience. Also, you can never have too many FTRers on your AIM BL.
As for the individual game questions, I will be posting hands and topics of discussion every once in awhile for review.

I mean the next blind level. Like, are there decisions that I should make differently because I will be playing a different game on the next hand? Do I need to take a risk and increase my stack for the next game? Or should I sit back and wait?

Definately.
Also realize that if a player is going to be good at a game (or not as bad), you're looking at Hold'em and Omaha as their best games. these games specialize on a tight is right strategy.
I'm willing to say the on average the players are the worst and Stud hi-lo more than anything. The best way to practice is just play microstakes for a while, until you get the hang of the game. Also, be able to keep track of EVERY card in play in both stud and razz so you can keep track of your effective outs.

oh, I don't think so. I never noticed any big jumps. Not sure what is "good" when you're below 5 blinds or so.
People love to play low hands in stud h/l and chase chase chase. So play your high hands strong and keep betting if there are multiple people in the pot.

I've heard it said by some pros who play HORSE and aren't that great at all the games that there is a huge difference in your style of play. Makes sense really, you can play your normal game and then tighten up like crazy on the games you're not really sure on.
In regards to the blinds, it then gets to the point of playing for as many chips as you can in the games you're good at so you won't lose too much at the ones you're not. However smart players will eventually spot this.

HORSE is fun as hell and at that stake you will do well playing ABC poker.
I suck at limit holdem and limit O8 but i do well in the 3 stud picks. Add me on your MSN or what ever.
Good luck with it.

Weclome to the forum Unibomber
I am not an expert in HORSE, but I played some HORSE Sngs;
Some tips/pointers that relate to HORSE Sng format.
1. Pay attention to game switches between Razz, stud and stud 8, some people miss the chance and play the wrong game at the first hand of the new game, try to pick up on that.
2. I think those tournaments mainly attract crowd of 7 stud players who also know holdem, I think overall the worse game for most people is Omaha 8 followed by Razz.
3. I play the stud turbo format, by the 2nd orbit of games the antes and bets in stud razz and stud 8 are high enough that you pretty much have to commit to any hand you play. This requires some modifications in starting hands because you cannot afford to play speculative hands, and you want to come out betting and raising in any hand you play.
4. When there are 3-4 players in stud and razz (and sometimes in stud8) the best door card wins the pot with a raise, so unless someone else raises always raise the best door card.
5. Aggression pays off in later stages much more then in early stages, in the first two levels (holdem and omaha 8) almost all hands go to showdown, so you need to have hands to play.
