Hard to put your opp on a hand here without any reads.
My best guess is that he had a Heart flush draw with the 8, to give him the straight draw as well. He may well have the straight anyway. I think that you have got enough value on the hand and I would just call. (especially after all the calling stations that I usually play against and not many of them would go as far as this one with only two pair or less.)

Cap it. Only T8, 85, and AA beat you, and AA doesn't fit.
My guess is he flopped a set.

I ruled out AA and thought I was up against 66 but I ended up capping it and he had 8T Lost a pretty big pot.

agree and agree.
i'm betting 99 (although, calling a raise preflop with 77 from the BB is reasonable).
or maybe 66 because he raises the turn?

You know what they say...if you flop a set and lose, and you didn't lose a lot of money you didn't play it right. *shrug* Just one of those things..keep playing it the same way and you'll be fine.

my thinking goes like this. his sudden attack on the turn indicates something real good, maybe two pair, so i keep ramming him with trips. but he fires back!? oh he could have a weird straight, T8 or 85. but who the heck would play such crap? only the big blind.
oh shoot... HE IS THE BIG BLIND.
he probably has T8 because most people won't bet a gutshot but anybody will play an open-ended draw, and some will even bet it. when he keeps jamming it into me on the river, i'm not fighting any more, he must have it so i'm just calling.
