Live 5/10 game. Table is a total Loopy fishpond except myself and the guy to my immediate left (BB in this hand). He is Super tight. Fish have been calling to river all night with Ax hign, bottom and middle pair. A few even have been bluffing with absolutely nothing on the river.

Hero AA in SB
UTG, UTG+1, MP1, MP3, CO and Button call
Hero raises, BB folds, everyone else calls

Flop: 9 3 K (rainbow)

Hero checks, UTG and UTG +1 check, MP1 bets, MP3 and CO folds, button calls. Hero calls. UTG and UTG+1 fold.

Turn: Q (no flush draw)

Hero checks, MP1 bets, CO and button fold, Hero raises.

River: 10

Hero bets, MP1 calls.

Board was non-threating I was going to checkraise the flop until I saw almost everyone fold. Plus I didn't want anyone to get odds on a gutshot. I was pretty sure that MP1 had a king and button would have raised if he had anything worth a damn. Is this a good play? I figured If I waited until the turn to raise I would get a couple of extra bets out of them and would better protect my hand.

Note: These were terrible, terrible players. Most were very easy to read. One guy thought he had a straight when he only had 2-3-4-5. Another guy thought he had a flush and didn't. Same guy that thought he had a straight raised $15 on the turn in another hand. Played for about 6 hours and left +263 for the night.

Mike Caro makes an argument you might want to consider for never check/raising in a game like this. It makes you an unfriendly player in a friendly game.

Given the action, you would have made more money check/raising the flop. Also, I'd hate to see them check the turn through.

Good point about the friendly game. But most of these people didn't have clue and new fish were cycling through the table just as fast as they could lose their $100 buy in (5/10 table mind you). I almost felt sorry for them until I turned in my chips.

I love Friday and Saturday nights at the B&M...

I think it's more +EV to bet your hand and talk about everyone's NCAA bracket.

Good point.

I check raise the flop not caring what others think, you don't want them in the hand. Chances are, they wont notice you check/raised only because there were 8 people in the pot. You do not want 8 people in the pot with AA.

this is a huge tip, I use it online and check-call strong hands when there are 5-6 callers. You will get MORE money out of them instead of raising to narrow the field.
take your ego out of the equation and judge the situation dispassionately

I shudder when I get big pairs at tables like this, where they will call ANYTHING to the river.
