I thought it was a blind-steal (it wasn't) and I was trying to isolate (I couldn't). So, I just spewed chips instead.

Why do you bet out the turn? Arent you trying to get to a cheap showdown/give up at this point? Arent you worried MP3 will raise?

Just for interest heres how youre doing against blindfolded opponents.

Board: 7h 6c 7d 4d
Dead:

equity win tie pots won pots tied
Hand 0: 20.312% 20.27% 00.04% 8337372 15274.00 { 2c2s }
Hand 1: 39.844% 38.70% 01.14% 15914281 470706.00 { random }
Hand 2: 39.844% 38.70% 01.14% 15914281 470706.00 { random }

[p.s. I dont play limit. These are genuine questions from a NL player]

The idea, such as it was, was to get the hand heads up against MP3, who I thought was stealing a blind. Heads up against a blind-stealer, 22 can be a powerful hand, because you can get unmade hands to fold or spew chips in your direction.

I took 2 shots at it, but at BEST I should have taken one, on the flop. When I get 2 callers, it is safe to say that somebody has me beat.

But in this spot it seems like you have a pretty good chance of being behind already, and if behind you have almost no equity or fold equity. I can understand if you think MP3 will raise his AK on the turn and BB will fold his 88 to 2 bets, but after the flop action that seems incredibly unlikely. Any raise is likely to mean you have almost no equity (2 outs?), meaning getting it heads up hasnt bought you much anyway. This would be much better if you had something high enough for one of them to hold an underpair.

Look, you are totally right about the turn donk. No doubt about it.

But on the flop, what you miss is that players often do blind steals with one or 2 high cards. Thus, a 776 flop often misses blindstealers. Further, defenders from the big blind often will fold if they missed and someone else hit.

Thus, a check-raise on the flop will often get you heads up against the blind-stealer, and with a 776 board, your pocket pair will often be good. It's a +EV play, as long as you know when to let off the gas (as I didn't here).

but, from MP3's point of view....

THIS is precisely why blind stealing and blind defense is such an interesting part of LHE. MP3 obviously has the reputation of stealing light....therefore, you have to either believe he likes this non-descript flop because of a plausible wide range OR that he is completely FOS and had a hand preflop that he is trying to cbet you off with.

either way, you have a sticky decision. you pay off made hands that would bet, but collect a mint from AKish stuff.

however, in LHE, we often play back on each other BECAUSE we know the stealer's range is so wide. and, by play back, i mean...when weak we call down. this is incredibly profitable against the right player, one that is likely to be overly aggro.

but, this is the fun of levels, too. MP3 may know you are likely to be calling him down lightly AND that you know he steals light. so, MP3 will likely be playing only abc here with part of his range, specifically, the weaker made stuff like 88-TT.. and possibly 89s. that shifts the profitability of the hand back in his/her favor.

and, we go round and round and round.

fyi, i will also make this move to get an aggro blind stealer HU. i will try and get the passive "dead money" out of the way because when he wont leave, i know he has me beat and i can fold unless i hit my miracle.

summary.... i like the defense a lot. i also like the c/r a lot to get BB out of the way. however, i dont donk this turn. once BB calls two cold, i cant do any more to win this hand, and i am likely behind, and i have no chance to improve to the best hand AND there is a very slim chance MP3 has us drawing dead if we think he can have a very wide range.
LHE is a game where your skill keeps you breakeven until you hit your rush of random BS.

Nothing beats flopping quads while dropping a duece!
