Ok, RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANT

we should all know how to deal with a maniac. Even monkeys with sticks can beat them. I just go berserk when some idiot joins the pot with some speculative hand just to shut me out and then fold to maniac's aggression. I mean... WTF? Why cant we just all get along and take our shots HU against him one at a time?

If u wake up with AA, fine, join the frey, push it, and get value. But if I raise, maniac 3bets isolating himself, dont come in with some donkey ass hand without SD value! Plus, u raise the flop with a draw, just to shut me out, and then miss it and fold the river? AAAAAAAAARGH
People play right into their hands. The baby Spaghetti monster is crying his eyes out!

You really think it was a flush draw? Could be, but not sure what two spade holding is capping the flop and not showing down. Maaaaybe AK, but isn't that a show down hand for most small stakers who have called the turn?

Seems like 77-99 to me.

hmmm...

wasnt focusing on this particular hand so much, but it happened with that same player 3-4 times that he kicked me or another reg out, just to end up folding the river after trying to bully the maniac.

Anyways.... how can u fold a pair in such a big pot against a maniac?

60/40/4... always get to SD with a pair!

If he is acting like that, aren't you now just dealing with two maniacs?
Some days it feels like I've been standing forever, waiting for the bank teller to return so I can cash in all these Sklansky Bucks.

maybe, or one maniac and one optimist that thinks he can out-maniac the maniac. Bad for everyone, anyways.

Well, poker isn't a cooperative game. (Indeed, it is against the rules to collude.)

And that's part of its beauty-- you have to formulate the best course of action against several opponents who not only have different hands but different playing styles. A lot of strategies that work great when you get heads-up can backfire bigtime when there are a lot of people in the pot. You can't choose the Villain or Villains you would like to have for the particular hand you are playing. You can try, with an isolation play, but they don't always work.

I can't stand maniacs, even when I make money off them, because they are kind of a disruption and playing poker against a maniac isn't very fun. But one of the key things to do against any maniac is to be very aware of how the other players are playing him. Many otherwise tight players really do start playing stupid hands in an attempt to get a share of the maniac's booty. One reason for this is psychological-- since we all are aware that the maniac is basically giving away money, it is easy to get frustrated when all that money is going to the other players instead of you.

In any event, if the other players are loosening up, I have found it's actually more profitable to play nice and tight against the maniac. That way, when you get the good hand you need, you can actually get paid off from several players and not just one.

i dont call it colluding, very far from it

you do check check check in a tourney to get that short stack out... nobody calls that colluding. For there to be colluding, there should be mutual previous consent.

This is not the case, i am not asking "that guy" (meaning whoever will read this) to help me. I'm asking him not to help the maniac, hurting himself and me in the process.

There are a few times when people playing sub-optimally hurts you and them both, but they are few and far between. A common one is when people call way too loose on the bubble in tournaments. Basically taking their EV and yours, giving it to the rest of the table.

gotcha loud and clear, asd. i didnt read the hh, but i see that all the time. and, it can anger me a little. but, it also tells me that i have a "FISH ON!" anyone that gets in a pot with a maniac with a marginal draw, and folds it to one little river bet, should just leave their money on the table when i knock their ass out of their chair for being too stupid to cross the road.
