occasionally, i can revert back to my uberdonk days, and this seems like one of those days.

in another thread, iopq and asd quoted the Stox/Zobags book and i said,

Quote:
i really want to start adding some of those hands. i just cant gain confidence that A7s/K9s or A9o is good utg against the stations i play against...yet.
i said that because i, generally, move a bit farther off the button in their ranges to open a pot...or tighter. for instance, they say that from 4 off the btn to open with...55+, A7s, A9o, K9s, etc...

my generic adjustment (because i assume my post flop play isnt great AND my villains are generally playing like stations) is to move another spot from the button. in other words, i use their 5 off the button range...66+, A8s, ATo, KTs, etc. but, it really becomes more like 77+, ATs, AJo, KJs, etc, because of all the people calling two cold pf.

i assume this is a pussy adjustment. is there anything you can explain to me to convince me to start opening A7s or K9s or 98s from UTG in 6max no foldem holdem games? is there anything you can think of to work on post flop that will start to make me more confident in them?

i also dont like opening Q5s from the btn, if my blinds are loose....which they usually are.
LHE is a game where your skill keeps you breakeven until you hit your rush of random BS.

Nothing beats flopping quads while dropping a duece!

The Stox/Zobags book also explains that the loose players pre-flop are often bad post-flop so raising the same range is not a big loss because the disadvantage you are at by not being able to steal blinds is paid back post-flop. So adjustments should be the greatest in late position depending on the blinds, and in early position depending on the table as a whole.

Another spreadsheet I have says Q7s+ from the button. So it disagrees on a few hands, but the adjustments shouldn't be too large because you might be giving up hands that are profitable against the villain's bad post-flop skills. The same spreadsheet suggests A8s+ UTG in 6max. In other words, ATs is way too tight. ATs is what you open in loose FULL RING games from UTG according to SSH.

start with the button, regardless of the blinds
you will play all pots in pos. Try to make those work for you and it will help u improve on postflop skills.
What ipq pointed out is true.
Just saw the stx video on PF opening hands and he basically said in looser games you can play more hands profitably. His chart is pretty tight because it takes into account playing in tougher games. To play looser, you really need to improve your postflop skills a lot.
Watching some of the doughnutz vids may help you since he plays ultraloose but concentrates on postflop aggression, hand reading, board reading, etc...
