First the background:

While playing today there was a situation where after a bunch of donks power checked a hand all the way down to the river because none of them had hit, and someone lamented that his pair of deuces got beat by a rivered 5 we had a discussion about what to do in this situation:

The arguments were clear;

1: Made by all the aggressive players at the table; the pots an orphan, first one to bet it picks it up as long as no-one is slowplaying a monster, but heck, it only cost you a bet to find out.

2: Betting without a hand is a poor idea in low limit games; you're just peeing your money away on a bluff that won't work anyway. Save your bluffs for 20/40.

3: One guy said he liked to check it out regaurdless because his opponents would become more predictable here. If he had a made hand, he could get bets that a smart aggressive player may not want to put on the table had he bet on the flop.

I want to know what you think the best line is at a $3/$6 game.
The older I get, the more I start wondering; Just what in the hell is going on here?

I like to take stabs at orphan pots on the turn with position. It is very uncommon for a strong hand to check twice, and somewhat uncommon for someone who hit the turn in this situation to check. I do like to have some showdown value with my hand ... a pair, an A, or a K when an A is on board. I think it is often too risky to lead out first to act when there are several players who like to check-call every street with top or second pair.

Depends on the flop and who is in the pot with me, but I will try to bet it if possible.
