This is my second post to FTR, and I’m enjoying myself here in the forums, however I’m having great difficulties playing .10/.20 limit @ pokerstars.

My first post is here: http://www.flopturnriver.com/phpBB2/...ic.php?t=27546 .

I know poker has its ups and downs but an hour and a half session last night was taking the piss. I dropped $10 playing .10/.20 limit, unbelievable! I have never seen some many great starting hands, pocket Aces twice, Queens, Jacks, 10’s 9’s, suited Ace/x’s, suited King/Jacks, they all came my way and I raised every time. I ended up playing 37% of hands dealt to me, normally I play around 20%.

I got hammered playing these cards only winning 1 showdown, and winning twice without a showdown. The fish kept taking my money with their "one high card, one low card", and then lost it to all others except me.

If I have any more sessions like this I’ll cry. Any advice or opinions would be nice, hopefully I’m just venting and all will be good next time around.

It's happened to me before, it happens to anyone who plays long enough ... lot's of great starting hands and never hitting a hand good enough to win. It was just as likely you'd have been up twice what you lost. The quickest way to a bad session at poker is lots of good cards that aren't quite good enough. Shrug it off if you can, wackier shit than that happens at hold-em. A relatively unrelated example: one time last month, over about 200 hands, I saw 11 people get 4 of a kind and 3 get straight flushes.

You will also have the opposite happen to you ... totally crappy starting cards but when you are in you can't miss the flop and turn a huge profit. I had 2 consecutive crazy sessions live last year ... first one I won 90 BB over 8 hours and didn't have 10 raising starting hands. Second won I lost 30 BB in an hour and a half with at least 15 raising starting hands. Those are the kind of things that will happen that you can't control. You can't get to thinking you suck cause you have bad luck, and you can't get to thinking you are a poker god cause you have good luck.

Oh man. It can get worse! Be prepared! I am playing 6 max and was crushing the game with great rate for 7k hands. And than it happened! Now I am thinking I d quit if I didn' have the good time.

I am having always strong second best hand.
River beats me horribly. Heads up losing on AA2 flops with 22 to single ace I was just slightly surpised. If raise turn someone's flush or srtaight draw hit. I cant touch flop , draws busted, take small pots sometimes to lose all big on the river and all of unimaginable things happening. It is like your odds are shifted and you are strongly on the left part of normal distribution for the nearst 10k hands(?) (for me cureently 6k). I was doing analysis comparing stats for first and second part each 6k hands and I am amazed so far. Been playing poker for a year. Now it must be the longest and hardest downswing for me.

Bottom line. Poker is tough and can make you feel miserable. Try to be be strong and suffer through the streak. After 100k hands you will look at your chart and notice a "little" bump down (100-200bb ?) and will be wondering why were you so upset.
But if you go down >250 bb it is very likely something is wrong with your game.

Thanks both for sharing those tales of hard luck, it has helped so much. I have just recouped $6 in a quick 30 minute session winning just two hands. J,6 unsuited in the BB, everyone and their dog called on every round and I had hit two pair on the flop, won $4 pot, what a joke. Also hit a nut flush from UTG too.

What a weird and wonderful game poker is!
