After about 15,000 hands of 3/6, I had a BB/100 of about 2.56. I then had a major downswing that reduced my BB/100 to about 1.12 after 18,000 hands. Now after 20,000 hands and a big upswing, I'm back to 1.95. With swings still occuring on this magnitude, it is obvious that my BB/100 number is still way far from accurate. How many hands do I need to see before I can get a good indication of what the true number will be? Would 100,000 hands be enough? Or is this a number that you can never really figure out with all that much accuracy?

1.5 million would be a nice start. I'm not joking.

so basically until I go pro, it's never figure out with much accuracy. Oh well, at the rate I am not finding a job for when I graduate and the amount of money I've won with poker recently, pro and 1.5 million hands might not be that far off

I think Sklansky said 6 million.
60,000 should be about 95% accurate, unless your skill or your opponents has changed...
Which is likely.
To win in poker you only need to be one step ahead of your opponents. Two steps may be detrimental.

60,000 isn't even close to 95% accurate

This is why people play poker for 30 years, you are never quite sure how you stack up!
