This table is full of calling stations including the blinds. My thinking preflop is that with 3 people already in the pot and 2 more almost gauranteed to call, raising just builds the pot for anybody to stay in to hit overcards or a low 2-pair if I do get a good flop.
Then on the flop it hits me perfectly, but SB bets and everybody calls before it gets back to me so raising won't protect my hand at all and I figured I'd wait for a safe turn card to raise.
Then the turn card comes as an A and the only other decent player in the hand bets at it, so I fold....Is my reasoning in this hand too weak?

Raise preflop. TT is a monster with position and a huge equity advantage.
Raise the flop. I advocate a call here if the board were more coordinated, but there is only an unlikely straight draw that you may be worried about. If there were 2 of a suit, I think waiting for the turn is better.
With the pot small on the turn, as you played it good fold.
If you had played with the raises, you may be locked into the hand.
If you had raised preflop though, you could be slightly less worried about a weak ace sticking around to hit his overs.
With a raise on the flop you would also be more likely to get a cheap showdown if a scare card does hit. You could also bet the turn and safely fold to a check raise if a 9 or A comes, and possibly the 6 or 7.
If I were bet into after a flop raise, I would be inclined to raise the turn and check behind on the river. The turn bet could be a semi-bluff or a 7 (or both) So the turn raise is for value, as well as fold equity(you don't want someone drawing to 2 pair). Very few worse hands will call on the river when you don't improve, so a check is not a bad option.

To win in poker you only need to be one step ahead of your opponents. Two steps may be detrimental.

Yuck!!
Raise preflop, raise the flop, call/check the turn, call/check/value bet the river.
