Well I got my copy of Sklanskys small stakes holdem (limit) like it was suggested by many people and I'm about half way through it.
Wow...I thought I had a grasp on what I thought worked and didnt. But Im amazed at how important suited cards become on playing.
Alot of info about folding AQs, AJs, KQs against any kind of tight player (as i usually 3bet almost always holding AQ, AJs, KQs/KQo for value of getting more people to fold preflop. But everything goes to the contrary than my normal thought. Everything goes toward getting as many people in a pot as possible on alot of hands like QJs, QTs, JTs, KJs....
Also Im going to have to really start counting the implied odds (something ive never done before) and laying down hands that I might of thought I had a good draw but dont mean the pot odds levels he recommends.

it took me a while to understand implied odds as well. Things like pocket pairs hitting sets on the flop, although it's obvious the pay out is huge, I never knew THAT was what implied odds meant.

Yeah, after my latest 15k hands at 2/4, "The Importance of Being Suited" section has taken on a new emphasis. Get this...for play at all positions, the top 20 worst hands are all offsuited.

Yeah, I've learned to be careful with this 3-bet against tighties or in EP. The way I think about it now, is if you are in EP and 3-bet with KQs, who's gonna call? Unless they're totally weak, the only callers will call or raise with (big) pairs or bigger broadway. Plus, with big suited, you don't hate a big party, cause if you hit the flop or a draw, it could be a big one.

You gotta, but careful about counting implied odds to non-nut hands. Could get you in trouble.

The single most important advice in this book is given at the end of the book, and it has absolutely nothing to do with playing.
That important advice is to read and re-read the book. I read the book twice through the first three weeks I ownded it and to this point have done complete re-readings of it every 5-6 weeks. I've had the book since October. I really believe you learn more the second time you read it than the first and I started to see the biggest improvement in my play after my third or fourth reading. There is simply no way you can absorb everything in it without going back and studying it again and continuing to study it.

Agreed whole-heartedly. It has a special place in my house--right near the commode.
Speaking of re-reads, for any of you who also own Sklansky's 'HE for Advanced Players'...anyone re-read this and compare to SSH?

Yes, HEFAP is a must-have if you play in games where blind wars are common and it's often 2-3 to the flop.
