here is a conversation I had with someone after I flopped nut broadway with my AK only to get split 3-way with a K on the turn. I, obviously, am going to cap everyround as to get those very hard-to-earn Pacific Poker Bonus Points (So i can get the heck out of there....)

Quote:
pekrhead >> idiots raisn for the house rake
elipsesj >> free bonus points
elipsesj >> hey, i flopped mine
elipsesj >> you drew yours
pekrhead >> ya but u knew it was gonna be chopped up didnt ya
elipsesj >> yes, yes i did
elipsesj >> and you know what, i got more points in doing so too
pilsner9 >> you can always hope for moron holding a 9, too
elipsesj >> you never know, we may be bluffing
pekrhead >> how much of your money do i have
elipsesj >> i dont think any
pekrhead >> well i have somebodys
elipsesj >> pacific takes 5% either way, so why not raise it up if we know we are going to get it back if we can get points out of it?
pilsner9 >> that's all that counts
elipsesj >> god knows it takes forever to do anyway
pilsner9 >> i don't even pay attention to the bonus
elipsesj >> i'm not going to play here if i didnt
elipsesj >> this place is too slow, you cant multitable
pilsner9 >> really - maybe I should
pekrhead >> ya bonus is like 1 cent per 100 dollar bet isnt it
elipsesj >> its just too lacking in the online poker world
pilsner9 >> who do you like better
elipsesj >> no, you gotta clear $2000 to clear the $200 bonus
elipsesj >> it doesnt matter, party, pokerroom
....
He realized I was right, and stopped arguing. Is there any better way to deal with these guys so paranoid about the rake? I mean, we each still made like $4 from the other players, so whats the big deal?

I'm not sure how the bonus structure works at pacific, but I take it to be hard to clear. Are you it's worth money to cap like that, vs the money you'd save from not feeding the rake?

(and why's he re-raising? if he's worried about the rake, he could just check/call...)

Now you're forcing me to do math....

The pot was around $11.50 Preflop. I just called the bet on the flop to entice more people to play (Questionable), the Post flop pot was $15.25. The turn was 49.00, the River was 63.00.

The rake: .50 preflop, .25 post flop, .25 turn, 0 on river (i think so at least).

Each player took $21 of the 63, with the inital investment of $18. Profit for the hand was $3. Each person payed .33 of the rake. Rake is 11% of profit. Earn 2 bonus points

If no raising (if we all knew it would split on the turn), the pot would be $15.25, with each player taking $5, with same profit of $3. Each player pays .25 of the rake. Rake is 8% of profit. Each player earns .5 points.

Bonus structure: Need to clear 200 points for $200 bonus, where each point is collected when $10 is bet.

I guess it comes down to how much return could you get on the $15 it takes to get those other 1.5 points. But, since you are getting those same $15 back i assume you might as well be greedy and get as many points as possible without any risk of losing. Whats another .08 in rake?

Do your calculations match mine? (considering i can't get you the hand history) I hope my math works out.

Thanks for the advice.

so if I'm understanding this correctly, for every $10 bet you get one point, and 200 points gets you $200 in bonus. so basically 1 point == $1.

losing $0.08 to get $1.5? sounds good to me.

i think so, but then again, it could be 100 points to clear bonus, and $20 to clear a point. Either way, the math should work.

Acting rational in front of the fish is -EV.

The proper answer is

"I came to gamble man, if you can't take the action then fold."

or

"What's rake?"

or

"I had an Ace and a King, that's a good hand, right?"

That's what I'm talking about.

It takes 2 to cap a bet on every street.
I don't know what they have to say
It makes no difference anyway.
Whatever it is...
I'm against it.
