Although most people on the lower levels don't think this way, I was trying to get a second opinon as to why people chase the flush so much. Is it always good from an Implied Odds point of view to chase the flush? I thought about this in a live game when I was playing with one of my friends who tends to chase every draw. He just likes to play, so he doesn't bother with concepts like this. But in analyzing his play, it seems that, deep down this is basically what he is basing his decision on. Are implied odds more important then pot odds or do they really have to mesh well together?

Come up with a situation where you don't have pot odds to chase a flush. (in limit Hold em)

How often does that occur?
To win in poker you only need to be one step ahead of your opponents. Two steps may be detrimental.

Flush draws tend to have the implied odds of crap... think about it, if a person raised you on the 3rd flush card, how often are you paying it off?

Also, you're almost always going to have right drawing odds to the flush. 2:1 on the flop and 4:1 on the turn (assuming my math is right)

2:1 odds only apply if calling puts you all in on the flop. Your odds for 9 outs are:

4.2:1 after the flop
4.1:1 after the turn

Yeah, that is true, but also you are missing the point of implied odds backing it up.

This only matters if you are heads up. With two opponents in the pot on the flop, you can call any amount if they are both coming along, and you should probably bet/raise if you have more outs than just the flush.

Hmmm... This reminds me I owe hyper a post on draws.
