He 3bet the flop/turn then check-called the river? If I had to put him on a hand.. Looks like an overplayed 98 or Ad9d. What did he have?

the guys at 5/10 6max will run that line with as little as Ace High... they do stupid shit... IMO it's prbably either a 9 or a 7 though...

No, it looks like an overpair.
The river put 4 to a straight on board, so check/call is the best line, allowing a worse hand to bet that may have folded to a river bet.

Hyper: Why not cap the turn? If he bets the river, call. 77-99 are pretty unlikely holdings here, IMO. There are many more reasonable holdings that you beat.

EDIT: Does UB have a cap HU? I don't remember. I think I still 4 bet and call 5.
To win in poker you only need to be one step ahead of your opponents. Two steps may be detrimental.

77-99 are fairly reasonable hands from the BB against a raise and 2 cold callers....as is 78, 79, 98. TT is possible, JJ+ would likely put in a 3bet.

Ah I didn't see that it was 6max, I hardly play 6max, but I can't see someone betting hard like that without 2 pair. I thought maybe a pocket pair, QQ+ but then he likely would have raised preflop.

I would just call if bet into on that river. The fact he can't 5-bet makes for an easy turn cap.

In a 6 max game where everyone is paranoid and over-playing their hand you may as well over-play the nuts.
