OK, I'm not sure about calling this pre-flop. I did - comments on this?
and then... Flop and turn the action was a little crazy, I put the villain on jj/qq/kk/aa or 99, so I decided to get my money in. The river jack made me hesitate - two out of five hands now had me beat and I started to question how stupid the villain really could be, I checked debating whether to cap the river as well (I'd lost with two sets during this short session already) but ended up just calling. Weak?

I'd put in another bet or two on the river. This is often an overpair blindly mashing the raise button.
Some days it feels like I've been standing forever, waiting for the bank teller to return so I can cash in all these Sklansky Bucks.

You want about 5:1 to call with a middle pp preflop. You're getting 7:1 to call the cap, so no problem there.

The only hands you fear on the river are 99, JJ, QTs. It's unlikely (though not impossible) the CO would 3bet 99 preflop and even more unlikely he'd 3bet QTs. So I'd put his preflop range at AK, AQ, AA-JJ. Once he starts going nuts on the turn you can reduce that to AA-JJ. If you want to be conservative you can include 99 as well.

Only two of those five hands have you beat on the river. Any time you're ahead of 50% of your opponent's betting range on the river, raising is +EV.

Thanks for the responses. I posted this hand because looking through my hands afterwards I couldn't believe I hadn't capped the river. I did check with the intention of check-raising, but got scared. Guess losing twice with sets in the previous half hour had affected me, at least this hand brought me back to square for the session...

you played it well until the river, I would either bet/3bet or checkraise. This guy obviously is overplaying an overpair and the only hand you're afraid of with this action is 99 and that is very improbable.

I would bet/call the river because online players are sick enough to cap the turn for a showdown. Otherwise, I like the amount of action you gave here. Meh, a river c/r is actually sounding kinda spiffy too...

It's pretty clear CO is over-playing his AA/KK here.
