For the most part, small stack = either a player that has lost a lot or didn't start with a lot. Players that start with less than an average stack are telling me "I'm trying not to lose too much. I'm a bad player, so if I don't start with much I can't lose much."

This is a generalization of course, but big stack = good player, short stack = bad player.

Especially when I see someone start a .50/1.00 hand out with a stack of less than 5.00....

good stack doesn't necessary mean good player. it could also mean loose player with money.

personally i sit in those games with 10 bucks. it kinda fools the big stacks cuz they think they can bully me around. well i fire right back at them and throw them off. once i make a decent profit i move and go to another table and do the same thing

elipsesjeff is an unknown quantity at this point
there are a couple of advantages to both.

A bad player with a lot of cash will be able to supply you until he leaves the table. And a good player with no cash usually has lost a lot meaning he is probably on tilt and is willing to play hands farther into betting rounds.

My favorite are the players that come in with about 10x BB and then lose it all, then rebuy for the same amount. Its hard for these players to not keep rebuying it because they win about one hand that will replace their bankroll but then proceed to lose it. Its even easy to spot betting patterns pretty quickly too.

Last week I played with a player like this, LHE in 1-2 at interpoker. I had ~90 and someone bought in with 20. He raised EVERY hand until he got reraised, then would check fold the next round. I called him down with middle pair twice as he was bluffing with King high, I couldn't believe it, but then again on another player I probably wouldnt have done it. This same person lost his original $20 after winning 2 pots then rebought for another 20, won another 2 pots then went bust. Its easy to lose 10xBB when you play every hand and bet until raised.

I tend to buy in around 50x the big blind or so, and I like to see everyone below my stack, maybe 1-2 with similar stacks on a full table. Chances are if you have 6-7 players with stacks larger than yours you are at the wrong table.

I prefer average stacks or large stacks. Small stack image just gives another reason for opps not to give you respect. Any extra advantage helps...

It's tough to tell in Limit because on Party there is no max buy-in.

You can buy into a .5/1 game for $300 if you wanted. That thought in mind I don't give the big stack nearly as much respect as I would on a NL table.
NL $25 Buy-in if someone has $150 in front of him be careful because you know he picked that money up off of the table.

But on the lower limit .5/1 - 1/2 if someone is sitting with that much I do'nt really care. What I don't want to see is alot of short stacks.. 10BB's or less.

I want a variety of players in a good limit ring game. Stack size is almost irrelevant because most limit players are going to play the same regardless of how much they buy in for. I would like to see, a couple loose/aggresive players b/c they will isolate pots for me, and I can usually play them heads up. I want a couple loose/passive player because they will give me action with the worst hand. I want a couple rocks because they are easiest to steal from. And finally I need a couple of solid players because they tend to have a stabalizing effect on the game. Skill is far more important than stack size.
