Why would you check/raise that river?

Fnord's First Theorm:

When you catch on the river with a scare card, you should usually bet.

Yeah, I think not leading the river was a clear mistake. Any problems anywhere else in the hand?

You're out of position with a crappy flush draw (no secondary draws worth mention) and a bunch of broadway cards out. No free cards and the pot probably isn't for sale. I see no compelling reason to raise. However, I see aggo players spew chips in these spots all the time.

Played it fine except for the river.

After seeing how many river bets I miss, I've been noticing how many river bets other people miss. I'm really blown away by the fact that people will chase and then when they catch they don't bet.

I'm also on a huge downswing so maybe I'm just bitter.

Not happy that people are catching, but happy that they miss bets.

E.g. I have repeatedly had TPTK and bet. The turn will double up the middle pair giving me two pair TK and chaser 1 gets trips. Chaser 1 checks, chaser 2 chekcs, I bet, chaser 1 just calls, chaser 2 also calls. River will double up bottom pair or 3 to a flush or str8 draw, Chaser 1 checks, chaser 2 checks, I check. Chaser 1 (and funny enough often chaser 2 will also have hit the river) misses out on a bet that I would have grabbed ankles and called.

I think there's value in betting the flop.

I think betting this flop is a small mistake in most online games. Explain why you would bet it?

After thinking about it some more I have changed my mind.

I liked a bet because if 2-3 players call he has a small equity edge. However due to the coordinated broadway board I think there's too much chance of being raised.

Yeah, quite often someone with top pair or whatever will raise to face the field with 2 cold taking away all of the loose random pair, overcard, gutshot or whatever calls that make you money. Also, you can consider a turn or river check/raise depending on the action and who decides to take over the betting. You even could re-steal vs a button bet. However, I think he needs more than 3 calls to get pure value here with the baby flush and no other draws to speak of.
