700 person MTT on Stars for $1. 7 card stud, high / low
I made my first LARGE MTT finish on Stars last night.
It took me 5 1/2 hours to finish 5th place for a $38 prize.
Needless to say the time spent isn't worth the money won, but the final table experience was well worth it.
Highlights?
Quad 2's
more boats than i can recall
having a 90% showdown win percentage. (a bit skewered because it counts as a win even if you split with the low)
Being the final table chip leader at 450k to 200k.
Downside?
Takes too long.
Final table, stakes are so high, you can't maneuver. Averaged 200k stacks w/2,000 ante and 15,000/30,000 bets. Lose two hands your done.
How it endeded?
The tourney started at 8pm, it was 1:30 am at that point and I was tired. I had 2 pair get beat by 6th/7th street flush. At that point I still had over 100k chip lead but decided to just call it a night, some of us have to work. The next 3 hands I raised everything and went out in 5th place. The tournament didn't finish until 4am.
After I saw that they didn't finish until 4am I'm glad I quit when I did.

Spending 5.5 hours on a hobbie and getting paid for it! Doesn't sound like a waste of time to me
Also whats to say that $38.00 won't grow into $380.00?
Congrats on your finish, its a shame it wasn't earlier but i fully understand your decision.

Yea, i was happy to make it that far considering i don't know jack about 7cs
The table became a rock garden, i didn't have the patience to try and wait it out. and $175 for first isn't worth missing a day of work for.

if that's not a bannable statement, i don't know what is!
good job, mike. maybe the payoff wasn't huge, but beating that many people counts for something (a lot, actually).

5½ hours for 700 people. ouch! I took 1st in a pokerstars stud freeroll with 1500 seats, in 6 hours. But all i got was a seat in the weekly round 2, which was Limit HE, I hate limit HE tourneys.
