4/8 at hollywood park. i came there for 15/30, and 8/16 wasn't going, so here i was playing 4/8.

the first thing you need to know is 4/8 players at california cardrooms suck. really. badly. i don't have any spwcific reads, but i had seen enough to convince me that neither villain was any good.

so i am on the button with as tc. 5 limp in front of me. i limp too. sb completes and bb checks. 8 small bets in the pot.

flop is 8s 8c 6s

everyone checks.

turn is 5s. checks to me. i bet with the ace high flush draw and weak villains. sb folds. bb check raises. uh oh.

folds to player in mp who 3-bets the turn. comes back to me with 10 bb's in the pot.

what do i do?

getting 5:1, i call....but i dont like my 5 anymore. i liked your original bet because you very well may have pulled ahead of some stations and had the FD to back you up. after the c/r and 3!, you find yourself staring at an 8.....maybe even a boat at a 4/8 live table. but, i dont think you can fold getting 5:1. if the spade falls, i may even b/f if checked to. but, i likely just call a bet because i dont want to get 3bet by any boat on a paired board with the typical passive player that wont 3bet much worse than the nuts. live, raises are one thing, but 3bets are huge tells of strength.

i saw this, in bold, when i read your quote at first....and laughed.

"spewcific" reads are now part of my vocabulary....thanks for the typo, you may have invented something here.
LHE is a game where your skill keeps you breakeven until you hit your rush of random BS.

Nothing beats flopping quads while dropping a duece!
