I saw this play at a 6 max 2/4 game on UB once guy c/r and folded to a 3 bet it really got me thinking that that guy honestly didn't normally play 2/4, up until that point I haven’t seen or heard of such a play at anything less then around 15/30 maybe 30/60... As he said his range for it was 20/40 to 100/200...

This is an interesting line, and if you start thinking about his reasoning behind the play it makes complete since... the rule of thumb for any decent poker player is to leave your self outs, by 3 betting the river, at I’d say almost all levels you are beat well over 90% of the time... unless your up against some complete dumb maniac but I don't see the types of maniacs I play with at like say 2/4 6 max at a 100/200 game but they might be...

Anyways, but to the topic and theory, as he said this line needs a real good read on your opponent, so I don’t think you’ll see this line from multi tblers without the goods, so I’m not sure what % this would apply to the avg poker player like Jeff or you, given I know that you both at least 4 table…

Though this is a very interesting post, and I can see how this theorem would work if executed at the correct frequency and with great reads…

I’m real interested to hear what Jeff has to say…

Two things make this play work to save bets. First, your opponent can't be on a draw if he 3-bets your river c/r. Second, your opponents generally expect you to call river raises.

Anyway, I mentioned it on vent, and Jeff asked for the link.

elipsesjeff is an unknown quantity at this point
Yeah, I read it, and it really doesnt make any sense. He didn't mention:

1) Giving your opponent free cards

2) The probability that your opponent will actually bet the turn when checked to.

3) Anything about Bet/3betting the turn. His assumption stated that he check/calls the turn instead of check/raising.

Since this post was a good year or more ago, I dont know how relevant it is now.

bet/call turn c/r river is the best line, IMO.

You get the same amount of bets ahead, but lose one less behind (if you can fold to a river 3 bet.)
and you don' give any free cards.
To win in poker you only need to be one step ahead of your opponents. Two steps may be detrimental.
