So I've been playing limit for a couple of weeks now and have logged 4k hands at full-ring.

Not sure how much can be taken from such a small sample size; but I think it'd be good to get problems identified early if possible.

The biggest thing I've seen so far is that the cold-calling percentage seems way too high. Is that right?

Your big blind is in agony. With something more reasonable, like (0.15) big bets per 100, you`d be in the neighborhood of +1.5 BB per 100 hands, overall, a pretty good thing.

You`re right, that you`re coldcalling way too often. I try to keep it to special occasions, around 0.25%, and even then my results are slightly negative. I doubt you`ll want to cold call with other than JJ, TT, AQs, AJs, and KQs, and there are often reasons why, even with these hands (which constitute less than 2% of starting hands) you`d rather 3-bet or fold.

Sorry this is such a quick post, but take a good look at your cold calls and big blind play, and perhaps post some representative hands.

Thanks for the response.

I'm trying to cut out the cold calling.

As for the BB, I'm just not sure what the big problem is. Is it playing too much, or not enough? I'd guess the former at FR.

One thing I probably do too much is check pre-flop and then call a bet because I've got mid or bottom pair and want to see if it improves, then I fold to a turn bet because of course it rarely does.

I think I'm worried that I "don't defend my blind" enough, which is leading me into trouble.

You don't seem to be playing very loose out of the big blind--a VPIP of 20 is not high, and you're winning your share of hands out of the bb, so it doesn't seem like you're just having bad luck in that position. Really can't say anymore without seeing specific hands.

Well, this isn't neccessarily a good or a bad thing--stay focused on your pot and implied odds versus the odds of improving. Also, when you fold middle or bottom pair, how often are you reasonably sure you don't have the best hand? Developing your judgment in these situations, particularly when you are playing heads up, is crucial.

lol--so call it something other than "defending my blind." First off, it's not yours, it's already in the pot. Second, since you're out of position you're a big underdog unless you have the better hand. Third, being selective out of the blinds can be a real money winner. It's okay to let people steal "your" blinds at times. The occasions you nail them with a better hand can cost them a lot more than the 1.5 small bets they pick up when you fold.
