I have this done to me almost all the time when I raise on the button lately.
It is surprisingly effective.
But personally, I typically only do it when I plan to 3 bet their auto-raise.
To win in poker you only need to be one step ahead of your opponents. Two steps may be detrimental.

The term comes from bad players doing this when they catch a piece of the board though a c/r is the bettor line they just bet out like donkeys thus "donk betting"...

Help any?

I will donk bet a flop if I want the preflop raiser to raise me and drive out players behind him.

Um... I must be missing a point here but if I am in the BB and call the pre-flop raiser's bet, I will often make a cont bet on the flop if it's just me and him (and the flop isn't AKx or whatever). Then *he's* the one who has to decide if it's worth staying in, and hopefully I have reads (or PT stats) which will help me judge my next step if he doesn't fold.

Do pre-flop raisers cont bet in the face of strength ALL the time at levels above $50NL?

Donking into the pf raiser is good when the pot is multiway and you'd rather bet and get raised (or get called) than check and have it checked around.

OOP you can't bet for free cards, so your bets are for value and equity. So donking the pfr can be a good idea if:

1) You have a good but vulnerable hand and are sitting right before the pfr. Hopefully betting will gain you equity when the pfr raiser raises and pushes people out (this also gets you some value out of the pfr).

2) You have a very strong hand with many players yet to act before the pfr. Hopefully betting will gain you value when you the pfr raises and you can 3-bet (and/or trap other players for extra bets).

Heads-up its almost never a good idea to donk the pfr unless your opponent frequently checks behind the flop after raising pre-flop and getting heads-up (and if your opponent is playing this way, he's playing so weak that you should have no problem destroying him).

if im gona call the bet im gona bet anyway, always no matter what the strength of my hand.
Add to that ill attack low flops after a pfr anyway, even through two streets if i feel aggression will win a pot or simpy because i feel like developing a table image when i have thus developed one that differs
I dont like the c/r line on the flop i prefer to donk then c/r the turn. Donking is an effective tactic i think if players recognise you dont suck and are winning money.

ChezJ is an unknown quantity at this point
its all about the reads baby. some people will fold a ragged flop if you donk into them. some people will rpf-ram 74o to the river so donking is a waste even if you hit the flop. some people will raise a ragged flop w AK on the button. some people will bet then fold to a c/r. its all about the reads baby.
