So I'm sitting at a .25/.50 table just now. "Maniac" about 4 seats to my right basically has his mouse hovered over raise and at least twice admitted he was just giving money away.

So, I double through him, and another player does the same. He brings what appears to be his entire BR to the table, loses about 1/3 of it to me and another guy and finally leaves.

"Donk" player, about 3 seats to my left, won big hand against him, then lost it all on a REALLY bad play (He had A9, capped preflop with maniac, capped the flop with maniac, turned his ace, but maniac had OESD and rivered it).

When maniac left the table I typed out exactly this:

"WHEN A MANIAC LIKE THAT SITS AT THE TABLE AND TELLS YOU HE'S GIVING AWAY MONEY, YOU TAKE IT. WHAT YOU DON'T DO IS TRY TO BLUFF HIM WHEN YOU PICK UP AN ACE AND THINK THAT SINCE HE'S BETTING WITH ANYTHING THAT YOU'VE GOT HIM BEAT."

Donk starts back telling me all this baloney about starting hands, how he started off with the best hand against the maniac every time, blah blah. I insist that when there's a maniac like that, you wait for a strong starting hand/draw and don't play back until you have either made a hand or you have good enough odds to allow it (ie-TP/flush draw, oesd/flush draw, etc.)

Now, keep in mind this is TOTALLY contrary to how I totally am at tables-normally, when I see a weak player like donk, I keep my mouth shut and just take all his money-more often than not, in my experience ,calling them out makes them tighten up and play a little smarter.

Anyway, when there's an obvious maniac like that at the table, how do you guys usually capitalize on it?

Most people will tell you to tighten up, I only 1/32 agree with this. Just like your guy said, maniacs are there to GIVE their money away. I love playing hands with those guys, because if you hit you are going to get PAAAIIDD!!! Everyone else is sitting there saying "Wait til I get pocket Aces, im gonna bust this joker" I say "Fuck that and fuck you, I want his money before you get it" You might lose a few small pots on the way but when you take one down, It'll be hefty!! Play their game.

If the tardo fish wants to cap against the maniac with ace high, let him give is money to the maniac. The longer the maniac has money, the better chance there is that you will win some of it.
Some days it feels like I've been standing forever, waiting for the bank teller to return so I can cash in all these Sklansky Bucks.

Consequently, I must have really pissed him off because he started playing back at me-so I just waited him out and all but busted him at that table, and did bust him at another table =/

Well, tighten up means like don't play A9s or gay shit like that from early position. It doesn't mean wait for aces.

thats great, but dont talk too much about poker in the chat. i just dont see it helping you. i see it helping HIM, or at least changing how he plays YOU...and thats bad. you need him, both of them, to continue doing stupid shit. thats how you get paid. not that you didnt know that.

i love seeing people talk "strategy" or "advice" in chats. they tell me right away, i may be at the right table. and, i'm not that good, either...lol.

lol@euph. that was funny. blunt, but funny.

I'll play more hands w/ maniac, and if we're HU, I'll go passive... allowing him to bluff it away (unless he's a "good" maniac, where he's finding folds). Try not to get "maniac" or LAG confused with "bad," because they're not the same. Obviously, this one was, but not all maniacs are, especially as you move up limits. LAG is very common.

So, OOP... I like passive. IP, I'll pop only if he'll stick around.

Side note: Your ego is waaay too involved while you're playing. Never "tap," and always say NH when you get snapped by miracle! When you learn to sincerely mean NH after bad beat, you'll be at next level.

Love the bad play, loose calls, and especially the horrendous bad snaps on river! The more they make, the more you make, PERIOD!

Yeah you need to control the urge to tell people when they're being stupid. Beter to do as socal says and just type 'nh' after a bad beat. If it makes you feel better type "YOU CALLED A CAP PREFLOP WITH 72 YOU STUPID F**KING FISH!!??!! into the chat box then erase it.

I say NH to the villain in two cases:
1. When we split the pot with the same hand. Because then I'm subtly complementing my own hand.
2. When his hand is SO bad that he needs to get some backpats to continue playing this crap.

I have trouble saying nh after villain flips some junk that caught a lucky straight on the river cause I figure even the fishiest fish knows his hand was junk, and will see my 'nh' as patronizing, or facetious or something, and then he'll tighten up figuring me to be stewing there just planning on waiting for a big hand to trap his donk ass with.

...I'm probably giving the fishiest fish waaaayyyy too much credit tho.

I like when you type in 'nh' and they reply 'ty'. Yeah that's sweet.

At the very least, you want to learn how to say it to yourself... AND MEAN IT!

When your AA get snapped by 73o, "NH" means... "Thank you soo much for building my bankroll. You think you won, but that's the sweet illusion that keeps you coming back. Again, NH."

This has been my mental strategy of dealing with bad beats since I learned to trust my play (at least some of it)

Oh and the donk who just won a big pot with 73o will probably keep playing junk cause he just got validated for playing junk. Rat pulls on the lever that gives food / drugs

...unless it's a solid player who just had a temporary lapse in judgment (see Fnord's AA < 72 hand)
