pokerobsession is on a distinguished road
Im fairly new to Omaha and I saw this hand $300,000 Omaha Pot Between Isildur1 and Cole South | CodexFind and was wondering did they both play standard? Cole was a 2-1 favorite and it seems they are both playing hyper aggressive. Barring history between these players would anyone do something different?

i didnt even look at the hand because, to be honest, i doubt there are many people here who are qualified to comment on strategy at these stakes. i know i'm not. and also, barring history between these guys makes the question pretty redundant because i imagine history would be the most fundamental factor determining how these guys play. especially in heads up and at such high-stakes.

I don't know that I'm an expert, but I'm a microstakes omaha player and I have watched and read the hand histories for a lot of these huge HU PLO pots.

Seems about as standard as you can get, I assume Isildur1 was hoping to be able to check-raise the flop. This is a 4-bet pot preflop, and although I'm not sure how aggro these guys have been playing (I assume, very) 4-bet pots are not THAT common (all pots are raised in these games, and a large percentage are 3-bet).

Generally, you can make an assumption that when someone 4-bets, their range largely comprises AAxx or KKxx. That may not be true with these two players (I did read that most of the hand histories of 4-bet pots with known hole cards for durrr involved such hands). In such cases, generally catching a pair on the flop + good draw gives you odds to stack off against this range.

Isildur1 flops a pair and a king-high flush draw and turns a gutshot + baby diamond flush draw; Cole has top pair + OESD + diamond draw...after Cole checks the flop Isildur1 knows his spades draw is good and probably feels any 2nd pair will give him a win.
Playing big pots at small stakes.
