Hi folks

I showed my hand when everyone folded, and two guys ragged me for raising with 99 pre-flop in a large field. MP and CO both just came to the table and posted blinds. Regardless, I would have raised from BB with 5 regular limpers.

I thought raising here was a no brainer, but they whined about all the overcards that could kill me...One guy said he hoped that I played that stupid all night....

What's the correct play here?

Party Poker 10/20 Hold'em (6 max, 6 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is BB with 9, 9. CO posts a blind of $10. MP posts a blind of $10.
1 fold, MP (poster) checks, CO (poster) checks, Button calls, SB completes, Hero raises, MP calls, CO calls, Button calls, SB calls.

Flop: (10 SB) 6, 6, 3 (5 players)
SB checks, Hero bets, MP folds, CO folds, Button folds, SB folds.

Final Pot: 5.50 BB

Results in white below: [color:#FFFFFF]
No showdown. Hero wins 5.50 BB. [/color]
Gone golfing ..see ya in the Fall of 2006
PS. What did the snail on the turtle's back say?
Wheeeeeeeee........

With dead money in the pot, I'm raising too. ...and for god sakes don't defend your play when someone berates you at the table. Act the part of the idiot. People pay money with stupid plays to get the table image you're getting for free.

I agree with Fnord; the dead money makes staking a claim on this pot with a raise worth the risk.

i don't like raising from the blinds -- not because people are already in the pot and won't fold, but because i'm usually going to be first to act, and if i miss the flop it's going to put me in a tough spot.

but a pocket pair is a made hand, so raising and betting out from the blinds is a perfectly fine play, a fine play indeed. particulary when you have not 2 but 4 random hands in the pot!

agree with fnord, you don't have to justify your strategy to anybody. just tell them they are sore losers and take notes on what they stupidly reveal to you about their own betting patterns.

I wouldn't even show your hand here, but thats me. I dont like showing people what I am capable/or not capable of.

My favorite:

"oh, i'm sorry i didnt know, I just started a couple weeks ago. I played tournaments for a while and I did pretty good so I decided to play Limit. "

Work in some on how moneymaker is your favorite player and your image is golden.....(mispelling of names works great, i.e. howard leder etc.)
