$9/$18 live limit hold 'em, I am in the big blind and am dealt Qh3h

5 players limp in, the small blind calls, I check.

Flop is AhTh7c

Small blind checks, I bet, MP1 (who tends to play pretty loose and aggressive after the flop) raises, everyone calls

Turn is 9h
Small blind checks, I check (thinking MP1 will bet and give me the opportunity to check-raise), MP1 bets, MP2 (a loose-passive) calls, folds around to me, I raise, MP1 thinks a long time and then calls, MP2 also calls.

River is 8s
I bet, MP1 shows his cards to MP2 disgustedly and then folds, MP2 also folds. MP1 says to MP2 "I'm sure he hit a straight". MP2 "Yeah."

Question: do I try a check raise on the river, or am I just not getting any more chips at this point? And should I have just bet or check-called the turn?

i play it like you.
turn c/r is mandatory. Extract those extra bets while you can. What would u do if u just call and a freeze card like that falls? If u check it may check around, if u lead, hard to see worse raising u, and most hands will fold.

I like leading river as it will provide balance if i semibluff and follow up when whiffed, plus ppl will gladly take free showdowns when board gets so scary, but will still call your bet with some/many hands.

I think there is nothing to change. This is max value.

Yeah dude, I don't think I'd play it any other way. You've already taken the common nut-line of check-raising the turn. Most players are going to take a free showdown, but like asdpikas said, they'll call a river bet with worse hands. I'd rather extract 1 bet here than none. WP

BTW where are you playing $9/18? Is that LA?

Commerce Casino. They have 4 or 5 tables of it running most nights.
